The Dwtc Dog Show And Race Day, Sunday 8Th May 16.

Recommended Posts

The DWTC Dog Show and Race Day, Sunday 8th May 16.

As dawn broke through the trees surrounding our back garden, and the dogs joined the early morning wild life chorus, this litany of nature was telling our household, the day had finally arrived to head to the DWTC Dog show and Race day.

After a quick breakfast, with dogs and trailer in tow, we headed off towards the DWTC show and Race day , and finally arrived at the venue at Sandy Heaks Modern Farm, Scarva.

Weather wise, the day started of cloudy with light showers, but by noon the sun came out to play, and rising up to 22 degrees in the shade.

Every year this show goes from strength to strength, and this year was no exception. There was a very large crowd in attendance and very soon the field was full to capacity with families, Dogs, Trailers, along with the laughter of the little people playing in the mid day sun.

It was evident a lot of hard work and muscle went into organising this show, as the race track was in mint condition, and the show rings well spaced out. Leanne Barry was there with her delicious burgers and fed many hungry men and women on the day.

It was nice to see such a large turnout of top quality Pups, Lurchers, Terriers, Whippets and Strong Dogs. The weight pulling was a big attraction this year and generated some good natured banter, competition, and excitement.

Philip Mc Rorys dog from Dublin done well, but was challenged by the boys from the County Armagh. And guess who won. I am not telling you. I will let you read between the lines. Some craic there with them Dublin fellows. A great bunch of lads, all out for a great days enjoyment, win or loose, and enjoy themselves they did.

As I moved about the field I met up with the The King of the Castle himself Albertj Titterington and his lovely wife Irene. Two lovely people out for an afternoons enjoyment , and a chat with like minded people.

Another highlight at Sundays show was the raffle. My raffle loving husband John won a bottle of wine. That kept him happy for the rest of the day.

Time flies on so fast when you are having fun and very soon it was time to start the showing. Here are some results of the Showing. ( Full set of Results of the Racing and Showing will follow later. )

A Big Congratulations Lisa Dumigan and Frankie, and to all the winners both in Showing and racing, well done to all.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges for a job well done. Billy Harpur for his lovely photographs of our Canine friends. And we must not forget Sandy Heak for allowing the use of his field, and for all his help and kindness to the organising team on the day. It was much appreciated Sandy.

And Finally, Finally, this special accolade goes to Team Barry. What a lovely family. Tom and Leanne, Morgan and Ethan, you as a team worked tirelessly, along with your band of helpers, to make your show a roaring success. Many thanks Tom and Leanne for a top class dog show and race day, and a most enjoyable day. It was evident all your hard work and sleepless nights paid off.

You looked after us all on the day, and for that we are truly thankful.

It should be noted Tom and Leanne are making a donation from this show to the Mid Ulster Rehoming Centre for Dogs. Not only are we enjoying ourselves at these shows, but the revenue that is generated by supporting our shows, is helping to make some animal or human beings life a little more comfortable in some little way. What a reward.

Many thanks Team Barry for a very memorable day, and I am looking forward to more of the same again next year.

The Keep er Lit Dog Show and Raceday Sunday 20th July 2025
Doagh Equestrian is situated on the beautiful Antrim coast in the village of Doagh, Co Antrim. This was a new venue for the “Keep er Lit” Dog show and Race day and the ideal spot for   last Sundays Show.
From early morning, cars and trailers arrived from North and South of the border. Some people came as far away as Limerick and Drogheda with families and dogs in tow. Our good canine folk love a good dog show in the summer and a chat with like minded people. They certainly were not disappointed at the Keep er Lit show.
As the show progressed, so did the banter and the craic. The rings were well spaced out with a good long race track. Paul Boyd was there with his country sports stand, with everything needed in the hunting fraternity.
Some very tasty burgers were available on site and an Equestrian shop with great discounts on offer on the day. I had to take control of my retail therapy when I got into that shop, as I was like a child in a toy shop with to much to choose from.
The weather was glorious all day and at times to warm. As usual the raffle generated a great buzz around the field with some great prizes on offer.
The show started with the racing first at approximately 12.30

      Congratulations to all above winners.
And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges and their ring stewards on the day,on behalf of the Keep er Lit Team for a job well done.
Strong Dog Judge : Gareth Barnett
      Lurcher Judge       : Gerard Melaugh
      Whippet Judge      : Colin Maguire
      Terrier Judge         : Martin Breen
      Pets Judge             : Gail Ross
Judging is not an easy job, but you were consistent and fair, and very successful with the end product.
The racing was carried out as usual to perfection by The Mc Grath Racing Club Carlow. These people have many years experience in the Canine world both in showing and racing and their input helps to alleviate the pressure on the show organizer on the day. A job well done Biddy and team.
Some lovely photographs were taken on the day by various people, and no doubt these will be up on the site shortly.
And Finally, Finally, they say behind every good man is a good woman and Leigh Thompson along with Paddy Gibson, you both definitely fitted into that category. Your show was run with impeccable organisation. It was evident on the day a lot of hard work and sleepless nights was put into  this now annual Show. Leigh and Paddy you pulled out all the stops on the day and produced a top class show in a top class venue. Well done and a credit to you both.
I am Looking forward to more of the same in 2026. Thank you for the memories. To we meet again God Bless.
