I know he is still yuong aand i am taking it steady its juat tinight was a bit wierd. Maybe he will makea better daytimedog...? thoughts appreciated. He is now 26tts and 9months old. this is the only pics i have on my laptop i will post a new picture ofhimsoon. he is 2/8 saluki 5/8 grey 1/8 collie, but he hs really thrown to the saluki. asi said thoughts appreciated Quote Link to post
martin 332
He's still a puppy mate, let him grow up and have some fun as a puppy should. You can run him when he's over a year old and he would be more mature and able to concentrate more,he is probably just going half baked cos he is a bit bored? There is plenty of time, and it is very easy to ruin a dog by trying him too early,so just have fun with him for a few more months.....and enjoy it and bond with him,it'll pay off in the end..............good luck..................martin. skycat 6,174
Looking at the photo I'd say that pup is still very much a pup: he's not finished developing yet: up at the back end, still appears to have a bit of finishing off to do around his wrists (the knobblybits on his front legs) Some Saluki types are very slow to mature physically: you know the old saying.......one year up and one year out. Plus he's a dog, as opposed to a bitch, so will mature more slowly than a female. I agree with the others: he's doing VERY well for his age. Don't sour him, and take it easy: plus if he hurts his still growing joints and bones at this age you'll have f**ked him for ever. Not worth being impatient for the sake of a few months. Lovely looking dog by the way! Quote Link to post

Don't push or else you may spend many years with a spoilt dog. take your time, let the pup devlop, it certainly seems to have HEAPS of potential. Quote Link to post
Gos 4
Thankyou very much to to everyone for their responses. I am going to give him a lay off now anyhow as he has broken a nail. I was just surprised as he has been out and had 2 out of 3 runs and stuff like that, he just didnt seem to have the strike last night. I know i should be waiting i am just rather impatient. thanks again everyone for your constructive comments. Cheers Here are some up to date pics as of this morning Quote Link to post
Gos 4
Do you think his breeding ought to make him a better day time dog? He has accidentally been behind one big rabbit, when i was walking him with a mate of my dad - he was impressed, the pup was turning it all over the place, offf the wood, off the hedge, my dads mate grabbed him as he was went through the hedge as it was a large field next door and he didnt want to break his heart on it. Like i said it was an accident and he wont be running another for a good few months. Cheers in advance Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
I once had a little Saluki bred dog that looked the part at 9 months old: he didn't reach his full speed until he was nearly 2 years old, though he was dead keen as a pup. This one thinks he knows a lot right now and he's only 7 months! Shape wise he is not dissimilar to your's, and I know that mine will be at least 18 months old before I'd want to really work him hard. Quote Link to post
brock 11
i wouldnt be running a young dog under full moon conditions, wait untill conditions are a bit better Quote Link to post
Royston2 0
have you not thought to yourself mate through you being impatient could put you right back at day dot by your dog picking up some serious vices that would no longer see you running him ie pulling up yapping or something similar all these vices are a serious problem generally caused by impatience and i for one would only blame one person for spoiling a dog... Gos 4
Thanks again skycat for a level headed response, i like your pup, he is similar to mine. Royston, cheers for your advice he is having a break now, but my dad has had lurchers for over 30 years and he is giving me guidance to. Fortunately i dont think he will be a yapper (i think this is more common in whippet types, is it not?), and he has made several kills in cover and hedges, he doesnt pull up. But like i said thanks for your responses everyone. Cheers all Quote Link to post
Royston2 0
I think any dog that is over faced will give some sign of frustration not nice to keep losing mate...I think it could be personal preferance in this i wouldnt run a dog at 9 months and if i did i would over look missed runs etc and put it down to a novice imature dog...Alot of dogs at the begining of the season can cock up mate even with a few seasons under there belt after the summer rest and not quite having that sharpness that they will have after a few shines out but your dad has probably told you all of this mate no need for me to pipe up good luck and lets keep our fingers crossed the pup comes good which i think is more than likely if given a bit of a break to mature physically and mentally i think the saluki types are very slow matures anyway....
