ryaldinhio 5,324
Anyone have one or built one? any pit falls fellas?.....other than the obvious of an in law moving in?! Thinking about it, maybe building a doubkle skinned insulated "lawnmower shed' getting signed off by building regs then adapting, this was due to me reading a granny flat or annexe or seperate occupiable building is subject to individual council tax now wether it is occupied or not....therefore an extra 600-800quid a year bill for what?! We live down a dirt track and arent over looked by anyone so no one would know the use of the building anyway. The other option was getting a static caravan and sticking that in garden....any rules on that I should be aware of? To me its in storage and every now and then someone kips in it???? ryaldinhio 5,324
Also read if you apply for planning as a gym then you are allowed to add a shower room without any issues of the building being suspected of being occupied.
shepp 2,285
Every paki in Southall has one in their back garden, so there must be a way round it. Then again when they take over an area, and they are all at it, who's left to complain.

I put a static caravan in when I did my barn without permission , lived in it for a few years then moved into the barn , left the caravan in the garden and now pay separate rates on the barn and mobile ...a lot depends on if anyone informs the council you have moved a static on , you need a few years without a complaint to get it classed as a mobile .I had someone inform the council the week I moved into the barn , they were down like a shot for the rates and like you I live down a track well away from the road ..I think it's worth looking at , when I sell this place it can make a big difference if it's got secondary living ...
