Scallywag 78
I had my first day out ferreting recently and I'm hooked. I want to get a couple of ferrets for myself but I'm totally new to them. Also, I have to wait a while til I move before I can get em. Thought I'd do some research first and have been browsing the net for books and there are loads. SO - any advice on useful reading for a beginner? Thanks. Quote Link to post

Guest Ditch_Shitter
" The Complete Book of Ferrets " by Val Porter and Nicholas Brown. Published by Pelham, about twenty five years ago. So it was written before people started insisting that ferrets could thrive on vet kill. It's simply the best damn 'ferrets' book I've ever read. Have any trouble finding a copy, PM me and I'll try a place I know. For more on FerretING? Graham Wellstead. " Ferret and Ferreting Guide ", I believe it was called? Yeppers. Just checked. Coch Y Bonndu Books have it right now. £12.99 HB. £7.95 PB. Those two'll set ye up Quote Link to post

Scallywag 78
Thanks Ditch. There's a copy of the Wellstead book on ebay so I'll bid on that now. No offence intended re Plummer andy s The Complete Book of Ferrets is £30 on Amazon so I'll hve to wait til I'm flush for that one! Just seen the James McCay book, bit more affordable so thank for the tip LL! Edited November 22, 2007 by Scallywag Quote Link to post

Kay 3,709
hi all im new to ferreting to i need advice on how to keep them clean them and train them and where is the best place to get them Hi Lee most people keep then in a hutch/run set up , theres a thread on here somewhere with peoples set ups on it, i will see if i can find it in a min, i use shavings on the floor to soak up the wee & poo , if the poo corners are kept clean everyday & they have plenty of bedding, i use shredded paper thats fine, they do seem to like a propper seperate bedding area, the ferret i have indoors has a hammock that she can get right into There best fed on meat as well , i think more folks are adding more meat to there diets now rather than just dry food, rabbits good & they love it Quote Link to post

For pitys sake, Kay, that makes it sound like ferrets are natural eaters of vet kill who the fashionably faddy and wildly experimental few have actually started feeding ..... what? Natural Meat?! Wow! What a concept! Lee; If ye can't afford Porter and Brown at twenty quid or so, get Wellsteads book. It's in there, mate Quote Link to post
Guest Chancer
click on the videos section of this, the ferrets and ferreting parts have good info for newcomers....something to look at while you're waiting on your books. http://tv.player.countrychannel.tv/skins/0...r=countrysports Quote Link to post
mooster 1
When I started I took out some good books from the local library for free. Make sure they are written for hunting and not just pampering stuff. Getting on this website is a great help.Just search for the word you want because just about every element of ferreting has been discussed in a thread here somewhere! Quote Link to post
COMPO 54
The Graham Welstead book was my bible from aged 13........its enough to get you started, you will pick stuff up on here and other hunting forums........read lots, listen to people and then make your own mind up, try and get out with a few people and see how different folk work Quote Link to post
