Deciding On Rifle - Which One?

I am moving onto a 300 acre property. I do not currently have my FAC but looking to apply.

 

I have been considering a .22 rimfire or .17 hmr.

 

Would this be a good starting point or should I go SG certificate first?

 

Any suggestions?

It all depends on what your quarry is mate .I would go shotgun first mate if your successful with shotgun cert then more than likely you will be ok for FAC ?,then I would suggest first .22 rimy a very quiet cheap round to feed, Ideally go for .22 and then .17hmr they both have there places, I got both rimys and use .17hmr for the longer ranges, but by far for me .22 is my favourite round on bunny's I find this round more satisfying to use.

As for calibres, what is your quarry/pest?

Thanks. As for quarry, mainly vermin. I will use an air rifle for round the barns rattling.

 

The open areas are large so needing something more substantial for the distance for rabbits. Maize is also grown so pigeons a plenty.

Apply for .22lr and HMR and SGC then.

 

Seems like you should be able to show reason for both on the FAC, and you don't have to fill the slots anyway, and don't forget to ask for a sound moderator for each at the same time.

You don't need to be able to afford them just get then on your ticket, get as much as you can on your ticket!

How long can you have an empty slot on your ticket then?

As long as you can justify it, but if you have been through a full 5 year FAC cycle and not filled a slot, you may have a job convincing your region you need to keep the slot.
