The Sporting Whippet Club Of Ni Charity Dog Show And Raceday Sunday 20Th September 15

Recommended Posts

The Sporting Whippet Club of NI Charity Dog Show and Race Day at Richardsons Estate, Moyallen, Portadown, Co Armagh Sunday 20th September15.

The superb Richardson Familys Moyallen Estate, Portadown was the idyllic setting and venue for the 2nd Annual Charity event, held by The Sporting Whippet Club of NI on Sunday 20th September. This magnificent location, set in 30 acres of rolling countryside grandeur, lent itself to the Canine men and women of the Lurcher, Terrier, Whippet and Strong dog fraternity for a great and well supported Charity Dog Show and family day out. As the field filled up, the sound of barking dogs could be heard all over the beautiful Bann Valley countryside.

From10.30am onwards as families and trailers began to arrive, the burgers and sausages on the grill were very much in demand.

It was nice to see so many new faces at our show on Sunday. The weather was good for the first half of the show, but later in the afternoon there was prolonged down pours. But this did not dampen the spirits of our avid show supporters.

With the rings up and the racing area marked out, judges at their remit, it was soon time to start our 2nd annual charity dog show and raceday for the Sporting Whippet Club NI.

**Here are the Showing and Racing Results. Hopefully the names and dog names are correct. The result sheets got soaken wet and badly smudged, and had to be dried out by the fire during the night.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the Judges : - Whippets : Walter Albert/ Lurchers: Barry Holland/Terriers/ Strong Dogs : Martin Hamill, for duties carried out to perfection, well expierenced in each ones field, and a job well done.

Deirdre McCoy and Margaret McStay were there with their camera, and took some lovely photographs, which will be seen on all the forms shortly. Many thanks to Deirdre and Margaret for that.

Nigel Quinn gave a great helping hand in the Whippet ring on Sunday, by taking on the duties of ring stewart. Nigel you are a real gentleman with a very kind heart and thank you for all your help.

Many thanks to our very generous sponsors this year:

Barry Holland and Joe Boggs/ Mickey Quinn/Margaret and John Mc Stay, and to everybody who donated gifts for the raffle. Your generosity has been very much appreciated.

This 2nd charity dog show would not of been such an overwhelming success if it had not of been for the following people. Chairman : Paul Reynolds/ Vice Chairman John Mc Stay/Carol Hill /Margaret Mc Stay/ Patsy Mc Coy/Deirdre Mc Coy/ Mickey Quinn, Kirsty Fyffe, Michael Quinn, and John Shaw, who all worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this charity dog show a roaring success.

A special word of thanks to our racing team on Sunday, Racing Manager Patsy Mc Coy/Carol Hill/Mickey Quinn/ Chontelle Mc Meekan/ Mark Mc Callion and Brian Crothers. The racing went without a hitch despite the terrible continued down pours of rain, and well done to all people involved. Your hard work and meticulous team work paid off on the day, and above all, everyone enjoyed themselves.

And Finally, Finally, lets not forget the man at the helm on the day. Without his generosity, this successful event would not be possible.

Yes, a big thank you to Johnny Richardson and the Richardson Family for giving the Sporting Whippet Club of NI the use of this stunning 30 Acre setting for our 2nd annual Charity Dog Show. The Sporting Whippet Club NI donated a Perputal Cup, to be put up anually in memory of Johnnys late father Hugh Richardson as a token of the clubs appreciation. This cup is for Champion Whippet in Show at each yearly Charity show, and is named aptly as “The Hugh Richardson Perputal Cup”.

This prestigeous trophy was won this year by Michael Quinn from Lurgan, with his top whippet Finn. Many congratulations Michael and Finn.

It is nice to know, that from your generosity of supporting our shows, two Charities will benefit :

The Heart/Chest /Stroke Association, chosen by Victor Mc Donald of Dunsilly Kennells, Antrim, to the value of £250, and a Cancer Charity chosen by Johnny Richardson of Moyallen Estate, also to the value of £250.

May I take this opportunity on behalf of The Sporting Whippet Club NI, to thank everyone for coming out to support the club on Sunday and all our other shows during the year. Hopefully your generosity will help to make somebodys life a little easier to cope with during their life or nearing the end of their life as a result of your contribution.

God willing we will do the same again in 2016.

Margaret Mc Stay

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
