skycat 6,174
Oh God, not again! there must have been that many threads on feeding dogs they warrant a site of their own! LOL Cure for sloppy shits? Feed raw: BARF. Raw meat and bones, animal fat, minced veg etc etc. Your dog will never be loose again: unless you feed too much raw heart and liver which is very rich. My dogs get minced whole rabbit, minus the guts and jackets, some, not a lot, of tripe, minced beef which has some heart in it if I run out of rabbit, breast of lamb once the butcher has finished taking what he needs off it, ditto chicken carcases and other butcher's waste which we get all for nothing. Need I go on? Ditch the manufactured dog food which is nearly always full of cereals, even beet pulp and soya which don't do dogs any good at all and are just there as fillers cos they're cheap. A fair number of dogs are also mildly to severely intolerant of wheat as well, of which there is loads in a cheap complete food. If you insist on feeding manufactured dog food at least fork out for one which is meat based: meat will be listed as the first ingredient on the bag. More expensive but less shit to clean up as all that undigestable cereal food is far less in quantity than the cheaper ones, and will not be coming out the other end unused, hence sloppy big shits. Hope this helps. By the way, our 27" 30kilo male lurcher of strong build and regular work gets half a breast of lamb, about 1/2lb of minced rabbit, and a chicken carcase a day: ocassionally a bit more if he's been out lamping hard. Work it out: a dog needs to eat far less in quantity if it is on a meat and bones diet than if it is having to wade through loads of cereal rubbish: there is very little waste on a meat diet and the dogs look and perform much better on it.
