ryaldinhio 5,189
Alrate fellas I have 2 hobs and 2 jills. the hobs are about 15 weeks so something near fully grown? the jills are about 10 weeks so quite a bit smaller. they are kept in seperate hutches at the minute but eventually I would have liked to keep them all together....so they could work together was the idea. when I mix then at the minute in the make shift court (greenhouse!) the larger hob just pins the jills and I think he is climbing on for a shag! he gets quite rough with them so I end up stepping in and splitting it up but he wont give up so I have to take the jills out. question is once they are grown will I be able to mix them? Basically I wanted a comunal court where they could all go together with split hutches jills/hobs. starting to wonder if I will be able to let them in together now. Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
One hob and 2 Jill's will be okay but need separating when in season. 2 Hobs may not be able to be kept together without fighting. Especially considering females will be present. But there are lads who do so without issue. However I think these are the exception and not the rule. Quote Link to post
ryaldinhio 5,189
The two hobs are brothers so I was hoping they would be ok? Quote Link to post
tsteve9999 456
I've kept brothers together before now with no problems but this year tried to introduce a new hob in with my hob and 2 jills and the hobs would have killed each other if I hadn't split them. As far as introducing your hobs to the jills there should be no worries, the scuffles will soon settle down if you let them alone. As has been said, there may be problems at breeding time with the males fighting, or even that the jills will take a lot of stick if they come into season at different times and both hobs are trying it on at once. The one 8,594
At 15 weeks old your hobs aren't climbing on for a shag , he's just playing with them maybe showing he's top ferret you can either stop putting them together until the Jill's are a bit bigger and can look after them selves or put pipes etc in that the Jill's can get in and hide from the hobs for a break and that the hobs are too big to enter , but if you keep putting them together and separating them your prolonging the agony ,another thing if your running them in a greenhouse watch out for the heat that's the biggest killer of ferrets Quote Link to post

ryaldinhio 5,189
My hobs did seem to struggle a bit in the heat this year when in the hutch so moved it into a shaded area at backof garden. Quote Link to post

The one 8,594
Ive two jill kits here just now replacements ready to go into the big hutch with the 8 adult jills , but all im doing is when cleaning out the big hutch putting the kits in the traveling cage while cleaning out the hutch .As expected the jills are all over the kits while there in and out of season there hormones are all over the place and there trying to mother them but the kits wont be put into the big hutch till there more mature and of a size to handle themselves if anything does kick off and it will as there going to have to fit into the ranking system in that hut Quote Link to post
Jamie m 668
In my opinion the longer you keep ferrets the more experienced you become . And the less they tend to bite ? 1 Quote Link to post
