Rabid 1,936 Posted August 8, 2015 Report Share Posted August 8, 2015 I am in the lucky situation my new home has an orchard, this year the trees are laden (and I do mean laden to the point branches are snapping, dragging on the ground....) with apples and pears, I also have a few plum trees and they are smothered in plums, any suggestions what to do with them as no way will they all get eaten, even though the plums are lovely. My first though was cider and wine, but having never made these how easy is it, suggestions, with recipes greatly appreciated. Quote Link to post Share on other sites

Drink next season if you can wait. Rack off the Lees when fermentation has stopped. Fruit wines are similar, crush and steep in hot water, add 3lbs sugar to the gallon and add yeast. David K 172 Posted August 10, 2015 Report Share Posted August 10, 2015 You're right it is easy, just make sure your buckets, bottles, utensils are sanitized and have a go. The worst that can happen is you get something undrinkable but it usually turns out okay and sometimes brilliant. Make notes of what you do, how much sugar/ fruit etc because the great thing is you get to do it all again next year and you'll want to replicate that magic recipe.
