Born Hunter 17,960
Difficult to know what to say to this, other than the obvious. Growing up in Linc's, seeing the Lancaster, spitfires, red arrows, Vulcan tearing by very regularly kept the history of the RAF quite real. Air fields all over, offices and barracks used now as lambing sheds, ruined Pill boxes eaten by the brambles on every farm. Watching the Dambusters on TV it made it all very real and, well, proud. 10 years ago, we had a generation left that knew all about the local history, who's great granddad used to use the search lights for picking potatoes at night and who thought he had shot down a German bomber with his knicker-elastic catapult. I really hope, when all these men are only spoken about in the history books, that these relics stand to remind and inspire kids that it's not just a history topic but a very real and proud part of our history.
