Poacherspocket 189
Rather than hijacking the similar thread i thought id mention my recent experiance. Last summer my bull x meg suddenly got ill. I got her to vets and they diagnosed a back injury and hit me with the first bill for all her medications and other treatments. I was litteraly in the process of looking for insurance as this happened. Anyway it was too late and i had to bite the bullet and put the dog right out my own pocket. I followed the vets instructions to a tea and for the last year shes progressively got worse. Anyway this last week she took a turn for the worst. I got her straight back yo the vets and he gave another cortazone and upped her dosage of metacam and reffered me to a specialist for the following mondays. The sunday before this she couldnt move and was screaming out in agony so i had to get the poor sod to emergancy vets and they knocked her out with some sttonger meds as she was going for treatment the following day. Well the day of the specialist came and the vet couldnt make head nor tail of her injury. All the physical tests like manipulation and reaction tests were just weird so they kept her in because they thought it was her meds masking the pain. The next day she had xrays which confirmed a collapsed disk and atheritus in her pelvis. The vets the repeated the manipulation tests and said a dog with a collapsed disk should NOT be able to do what my dog was doing if it was that causing the problem so nowthey belive the dog may have brain damage or an injury to her spinal cord. So because they cant locate the injury she will have to hve multiple mri scans. Up to now iv paid hundreds in medication at a guess 400quid. Iv had her under anesthetic and manipulated at a cost of 180. Seen the bonemen. And up to now with the specialist iv paid just short of 2k. So unless you have the bottle to put your dog down after all the time you put in and not get attatched to it or have a huge bank account id advise getting your dogs insured now because im at my wotts end with my poor dog. Just hope i can get her comfortable enough for a life on the sofa. Quote Link to post
Tozer 385
I might be cold, but a dog screaming would have been put down, I do understand, but I have to say it would be a battle with the Mrs., and not a nice experience, I had a lab with bone cancer who went the same, she was put down sharpish, but cancer is different. 1 Quote Link to post
Poacherspocket 189
Hope nobody reads too much onto what i put to pick me apart. When i said screaming il give you an example. If your dog breaks its leg it will scream so you take it to the vets and get it fixed. My dog had a bad back so she was aching when she was laid down so shed have to stand back up and have a hobble round and it was when she stands up and lays down she screamed out. So i had her in emergancy vets to see her right. Quote Link to post
