richie 1
out with the ferrets yesterday to do a set with about 20 holes. took a new jill out & my hob, the jill worked well and had them bolting.. as i was working my way through the set i came to the last couple of holes... 20 minutes past, then 30. went for the mk3 and had them at about 4 foot.. i thought this was going to be the first time i was going to let my spade see some action . i waited for another 10 minutes and still no sign to be honest there was no way i was digging down to 4 foot at the base of a tree. so i got the malt paste out. ive been giving this to them for 6 months now as a treat every now and again. they go crazy for this gear. when i give it to them in the hutch they jump up at me and try climbing my legs. before i give it to them i make a certain call to them, then give them some. they now associate me making a noise to them getting a treat. so i made the call at the nearest hole and held the lid off the paste and blew hard as i was squeezing some out of the nozzle, within a minute they had both surfaced, couldnt believe it. been persistant with it actually paid off. mind you, i could of been luck, ill have to try it next time im out. does anyone else give there ferrets this..? richie 1
give it a bash.... i dont know what they put in it, but they love it.. another thing i use it for is when my lads get abit fiddly when im trying to put a collar on them, i squeeze some on top of my box, they sit there still & silent and i have all day to put the collars round their neck. richie Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
I have used the old ferretvite which is the same if i have had a poorly ferret , but i have none left, also found it usefull when clipping nails back a bit , just a dab on there bellys & it keeps them still Quote Link to post

Axholme Ferreter 0
I use stuff called 'Ferretone' I think its the same sort of stuff but in a liquid form. It must be like Crack Coccaine for ferrets because mine are nuts for the stuff. I use it as a treat and to keep their attention when clipping nails or putting on collars. When they are in the ferret court I put a drop on the back of each of the ferrets and then watch them all doing the conga licking it off each others back. I tried it whilst out rabbiting to get ferrets to return but it worked a bit too well. They soon got the idea that if they came up they might get some and so were not staying in the holes and working properly. So dont use it while out rabbiting now. All the best AF Quote Link to post
