air gun ant 1,666
Looking at getting an inflatatble boat that will fold up and go in the camper, because at the moment i have to drive the camper and mrs ant drives the car and trailer with the boat, and its a pain in the arse tbh. So ive been looking at the seapro 380hd with the 15hp parson 4stroke? maybe the 25hp if i can part ex some old outboards or sell my kayak. Does anybody on here have any experience of fishing from an inflatable? im still not convinved its a good idea really lol sharp hooks and all that? cheers ant Quote Link to post

I'm sure that it was the Taylors and their mates who did a lot of shark fishing back in the 60s or early70s from rubber dinghies . Quote Link to post
gazjon5 941
I have fished from a few inflatables and also ribs over the years, and have never had a hook go through one. I would never dream of taking a gaff aboard one though. I had a fair few bass, thornback etc and never felt a puncture was likely, but did hear a report of a tope shredding a tube once. Just get one with multiple chambers If you are worried. The material on the known make ones is fairy tough in my experience. They are very seaworthy for there size, but they are wet boats with no protection, minimal freeboard and the tubes take up a lot of the internal space. I will tell you I wouldn't spend my money on a parson engine, you would be much better off with a good used engine from one of the major manufacturers ( honda, suzuki, Yamaha, mercury, evinrude or tohatsu) IMHO. If you do get one do yourself a favor and get a 12v inflator/ pump it saves a lot of backache and a set of decent folding transom wheels make launching a lot easier if you havent got a trailer. Gazcheers for the reply mate, I havnt heard anything about these parsun motors tbh I assume there Chinese? And tbh I can't be arsed with a brand new motor and the "running in" that comes with it, I just wanna get straight out and play lol I do have a 6hp Suzuki 4stroke that's brilliant but I just wanted something with a bit more punch to it, and the parsuns seem to be what they are pushing in this package. I'm going to call in and speak to them personally after work today if I get finished early enough.I'm thinking perhaps fishing with longer uptide type rods would help control bigger fish near the boat? Also the reason I'm going for the heavy duty/work type boat over the cheaper "rubber dinghy" type. But the whole point is so that I don't need to tow a trailer so it needs to pack up in to a bag. It also eliminates the need for slipways etc just carry to the waters edge and pump it up Quote Link to post
gazjon5 941
Yep those Parsuns are Chinese I believe. I would avoid the uptider or any longer rod on a smallish boat, its no fun having to hang the rod over the side every time the line wraps round the tip or for threading the rings, and will create problems you don't need. Those Suzuki 6hp 4strokes are good little engines but like you said it wont get a 3.8m inflatable on the plane, if buying new is an option the evinrude etecs are nice motors with no break requirements and I think no servicing for the first 3 years which will save a bit of cost. I would still say get the dolly wheels for the transom, without them you will do more damage getting it the last couple of feet from the beach / slip into the water than you will fishing off it I guarantee it, and with the wheels you wont have to worry about the tide coming in or going out while you are inflating it or packing or down. The wheels clip on and off so you can still roll it up for transport etc. Gaz Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Done it today got the seapro 340 heavy duty but I upgraded from the parsun to a mariner and also got the wheels for the back and an anchor chain and warp also a couple of life jackets and a pump and allsorts of other shite lol Should have fun over the summer tho!!! 1 Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Same as the vid on this link but I've gone for a mariner instead of the the parsun http://www.seaproboat.co.uk/inflatables.php Quote Link to post
gazjon5 941
Fair play mate you don't mess about do you!! I hope you enjoy it, am sure you will. Get a bit of practice on some grass putting the floor in, they can be a bit tricky till you get the knack. Out of interest what hp engine did you go for? Edited to add nothing wrong with the mariner engines, been used by the RNLI for years for good reason Edited May 19, 2015 by gazjon5 Quote Link to post
air gun ant 1,666
Went for 9.8hp because it seems to push that boat along nicely 2 up and towing 2 kids. And will plane nicely with up to 30 stone in it apparently. Also much lighter to get in and out of the camper on my own lol 2 Quote Link to post
