Change In New Dangerous Dog Law

Recommended Posts

Thats why you need a Guarding breed, an Alsation is one of the best for playing with the kids then guarding the place when needed, Alsation know the difference between a face they know and a face they don't.

But a lot of the GSD of today with there sloped backs are now we're near as athletic as the old Alsation.

A so-called "guardian breed" might be slightly more likely to do the job depending on the lines it comes from but you'd be mad to trust it to protect you and yours without any training. You can't expect a dog to just naturally know what people are ok to bite, especially if 99% of their life they've been told not to act aggressively toward any people.

I've walked onto a yard before with supposedly serious guard dogs (a Rottweiler and GSD), I just said hello to the dogs in a friendly way made a bit of a fuss of them then walked past as if I was supposed to be there, they followed me round with tails wagging until I left ;) neither of these dogs knew me from Adam.

To be honest a barking detterent is all most people want and need, dealing with an actual guard dog in the home is a serious headache, always having to be mindful of who's coming and going and how the dog is reacting to them. It's alright for me I'm an antisocial bugger  but if you're the type that has loads of guests in and out everyday it's just asking for trouble.

But that the difference between guard dogs and personal protection. My dogs will take a fuss from anyone but will bite anyone if needed. A dog that you need to lock away is nigh on useless.

Dogs that bark for no reason or because someone is about are usually doing it in defence, a lot of these dogs are bluff. A bluff to a ppd dog can be seen as a threat and this will get you bitten.

true that, most dogs its all bluff and just bark even if they at to take it further . only 1 dog iver really seen that would really bite you and it had no bluff, was a big black Alsatian thing might have had bit of collie in it, but looked 90% gsd, this was at a farm on a chain , and only loose at night. I said to the farmer one day , that the dog only plays up because its on a chain , he said 2 blokes came round early hours 4am , he seen them the day before asking if this was so and so farm said no, they went . well he said heard right noise 4am, went out outside , was blood all over yard and dog had blood around his mouth . next day he heard from mate who mrs worked at local hospital ,that a bloke went in 7 am for dog bite needing stitching ,and badly bruised arm . so that big black gsd fecker deff would bite you lol , It had that look in it eyes , even on the chain it looked evil thing, but farmer said it was good with his grand kids , I wouldn't have trusted it no way, but the farmer today would have been hell of lot of trouble today with a dog like that if it was loose, this was 15 odd years ago
