New To Shooting

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Completely new to all shooting, been reading up the laws and do's and don't and read a very informative post in the new user section about the types of rifle and pellet etc etc

Firstly i obviously want to start off in the garden to practice with targets then maybe move up to rabbits

The law for air rifle seems to be over a certain power output needs a gun license.. So was just wondering if the rifle im looking at requires one or not

It is a SMK Super Grade XS19

Anyone know any info and this and would you recommend it for a newbie?

Thanks all!!

I don't know much about specific air rifles, but you can have an air rifle up to 12ft/lbs of power with no licence. I'm sure yours would be below that.

Someone with more knowledge will be along shortly to give you the specifics.

On one website its quoted as over 11ft/lbs so hopefully over 11 under 12 haha

Thanks mate

Good advice above, you would be better off going to a club and trying some before you waste your money on a smk for me but depends on how much you want to spend. You'll be fine shooting in your garden providing you have adequate backstop and no pellets leave your boundry.

Hello pj

I am just looking as well and on my first trip to the gun shop I was a bit over-whelmed but the choice but soon sussed out that for a bit more money you can get one of the better makes.

If you buy from a shop they will test the power I would hope but am not sure about this thing about guns going over.

My first ever air rifle was a B2. Absolute rubbish, but it started a passion that's been annoying to the wallet ever since. Dropped enough starlings with it though back in the day.
