secretagentmole 1,701
As some of you may be aware the Walther had to go back to Solware as it was woefully underpowered. It was struggling to reach 10.5 ft lb with Sovereigns. That was at the height of the sweet spot. It was also tested by an RFD who agreed with my figures! So we contacted the seller and they agreed it was underpowered and asked what could be done. Seeing as the Galatian was also in .22 I asked if we could swap it for a .177! The seller agreed so we toddled off back to the midlands (bought it on the way back from seeing my sister who lives near Wrexham in December). We walked in and handed the gun back over. Well the person behind the counter was obviously not the person who agreed as they said all they could do was send it back. Feeling somewhat disgruntled we left under protest. Come the weekend following and I am on the phone. Heard nothing from them. Now they do have a good reputation and the person on the phone was the same one who agreed to replace it. He promised to do some proverbial backside kicking! Monday I get a phone call new .177 will be sent out that very day on Parcel Farce (and I use that term explicitly) Express 24. I remind him that we did buy a spare magazine in .22 that was also sent back with the gun. Promised another magazine. Tuesday comes, no tracking number so we call Parcel Farce who advise us that yes they have a parcel for us, in Coventry! What is it doing in Coventry? Our local (?) Parcel Farce office is 40 odd miles away in Norwich. I asked what the Mary Ellen it was doing in Coventry. Answer there came none. Well today the parcel turned up. First thing I did was put a silencer on it and put on the good old Combro. 10.74 ft lb with Ogives. That is ok for me. It will probably warm up a bit when there is no ice everywhere and when I have put a few through it. Come in and decide to fill it up to the top, discover another problem. They have included the spare magazine alright but forgot the damned filler probe! 3 Quote Link to post

secretagentmole 1,701
It has been out today! 6 pigeons! The gun works very well indeed! Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Well this is interesting to say the least, I really fancy a .177 r8 and was, funnily enough about to ask has anyone had a .177 on the chrono yet, I think I will hold back for a while and see just how many under powered .177s come out of the woodwork, I am damned if I am spending £400 odd quid on a brand new rifle that only makes 10.5 ftlbs, time will tell Quote Link to post
secretagentmole 1,701
I will tell you what the gun looks like to me. It is basically an Airmagnum 850 with a regulated airbottle (13oz size) and new fancy Minelli stock. It would explain the cheapness of the gun, the fill probe position and the shot count! charlie caller 3,654
That is exactly what it is mate, now I did a hpa conversion on a .22 850 airmagnum a couple of years back, and I have to say it was very good, super accurate, and I never had any problems with pellet feed, I did the 2 stage trigger conversion (remarkably easy) and stripping them is not hard, a little fiddly perhaps but nothing hard about it, with a little bit of fettling they can be made a very good accurate multishot, but as I am a .177 addict I have always fancied one, now the .177 850 is pretty underpowered running on C02 about 9.5-10 ftlbs if memory serves, but convert them to hpa, and a couple of little mods and they will run easily at around 11.5, which is just about perfect in my opinion, so here is my dilemma, do I buy a r8 in .177 and strip it and tweak it to get the power up to around 11.5, or do I buy a used 850 in .177 and do the conversion and tweaks and probably save myself quite a bit of cash into the bargain? secretagentmole 1,701
Save the cash. The Minellistock can be a swine to fit the qd studs too because of the fill hole location and the butt pad screw position! Quote Link to post

Butt pad screw are no problem what so ever regards the QF stud, there is ample clearance .. regards to the front fitting you have two choices. One drill the forend or mount via bottle clamp ... taking the stock off takes all of 4-5 minutes ... there is a youtube video that actually explains were best to drill and what size drill bits to use ... absolute doddle Quote Link to post
