archiekale 427
hi lads was going out this morning to do a bit of ferreting with the son and son in law but as luck would have it my son turned up but looked like death warmed up so told him not to bother and go get back to bed so me and sav set off to the basin 90 mile round trip only a field away from where stoggy and les have been controlling the gees (doing too good a job not many about now) anyway we walked about 200 yards from the parking spot and the little bitch marked straight away no whining or digging just pricked her ears and sat down , we started to set the netts on a 7 holer dog just sat there waiting she does this i called her away and we walked down the edge when she marked we just netted up we ended up netting nearly every warren until we got to the edge of the basin then went back to the beginning the rabbits had about an hour to settle and soon as the ferret entered they wanted out two bolt straight away and one stayed dug that at 3 foot (actually 2 1/2 ) easy digging carried on the banking nets already down ferret in rabbits out every warren they flew out but one always stayed but the last warren we bolted 2 but as we started to pick the nets the bitch walked the warren and sat down looking at a bolt hole dropped the nets again ferret in where she was bang another 2 got 15 in total from the basin then went on to a blackthorn edge + dyke were the geese have been doing the damage rabbit scrats everywhere walked 100 yards 3 rabbits will be getting these on the quad the rabbits doing the damage are traveling 100 yards from someone elses land which i don't have permission so ferreting is out of the question but lamping isn't ps 3 rabbits on the right not bellied yet Edited January 7, 2015 by archiekale 2 Quote Link to post
NEWKID 29,096
Nice one mate, that's a handy dog. Mines a little exuberant with her marking lol Quote Link to post
archiekale 427
if the dogs a little exuberant net up and leave the burrows 1/2 houre let the bunny settle then slip the ferrets in they will bolt easier if we do a warren and we make a bit of noise we move on netting other warrens then go back to the begining then ferret they bolt quicker 1 Quote Link to post
NEWKID 29,096
The lurchers fine mate, the terrier doesn't miss much but likes you to know there home lol Most of ours is big hedge work, so by the time you've got to the end it's back to the start and off you go. Wish I had more open warrens, I've a few in the woods which I do early season before the hedges did back. Quote Link to post
