Rez 4,961
We are both very well and hearty indeed thank you Mac. Hope you and your family are too dear friend. The Weihrauch HW77 is really overlooked by a lot of lads today who, for whatever reason, are looking at choices with other spring rifles on offer out there. But the HW77 is an unbelievably accurate rifle. It's also one of the best built Weihrauchs still in production. I wouldn't be without mine and if (God forbid) I had to part with all my guns but, keep only one air rifle I have, it would have to be my HW77 .22. I would love for you to try mine out on a full day's hunting with it Mac, If you love your HW97 and rightly so, you'll love this HW77. My old pal Andy here tuned it to the smoothest cocking and almost-recoilessly shooting spring rifle I've ever owned. It'll match a PCP any day of the week. Best wishes mate. Simon First off Simon how are you and your good lady keeping , well i hope , And to tell you the truth i had for got all about the hw 77 the older brother of the 97 iv never owned one may be its time i did as every one that has had one loves them to bits . Mind it will have to be some thing special to take me away from the 97k. atvbmac  Simon. Your point about the 77 mate. It's made me think, why are they overlooked? I can only imagine it's down to there looks... With today 97's and 200's bull barrels and so on, it could be down to the fact that the front end, barrel wise, just looks like two pipes. It's only an opinion here, but it has to be something. For me it's the looks. They dont perhaps looks as 'tuned' as the others... Maybe. I don't know. Nothing against performance of course, so it has to be aesthetics of course. They look vintage 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,589
Hi Rez. Actually you make a very valid and excellent point that I haven't thought of. The HW77 action hasn't changed since it was launched in the late 70s now. It's only cosmetic change has been a new stock design out a couple of years back now. It can be argued that, it was perfect the day it was born and doesn't need radical makeovers. But, as always, looks heavily influence buying trends so, your point is a powerful statement. A re-fashioning of the underlever as Air Arms have with their Pro Sport concealed into the forestock would make a real good looker from its action? This would give the rifle a classical refined look that, with a walnut as well as fine Beech stocks, could turn it into a beautifully sleek, modern looking rifle. As the pro Sport does. As it is, I have a polished factory stock of very nicely figured, full grain beech with an ambidextrous buttstock. It looks and handles well enough. But put the same action into the HW97K stock with its Tartan chequering and it takes on another look altogether. Weihrauch should be looking at the rifle with a view to cosmetic upgrades like this.
