A Natural Retriever At Only 7 Weeks

Recommended Posts

whilst out and about setting snares checking traps and mole trapping I take my new little pal so that we get a good bond and she gets to see as much new sights and sounds as possible ... I noticed this week that whenever a leaf or a bit of sheeps wool or some paper etc blows past it she will naturally chase after it in that silly clumsy way that pups run ... But once she has caught it she always runs straight back to me with it ... If I keep walking she will trot alongside me holding whatever she has caught in her mouth ... If I stand still she will run back and sit in front of me With whatever she was chasing .... I was sorting out rabbits earlier tonight I and threw one across the floor ready to feed to the ferrets later on ... As I did this the pup ran across to it grabbed it and dragged it back to me ... I did this a few more times and the little tyke dragged it back every time ... Its always a good sign when a pup is naturally doing something you want it to do as an adult ........ Pictures are not the best as they were off my phone ..........

EDITED to add fukc knows why the pictures keep comming up sideways ........

That's the best sort of retrieve in my book, it's so pure with no commands or friction , I wouldnt be in a rush to take the item off her, her prize item in your space is the deal clincher for me

Too many lads whipping the prize away before a pup is comfortable with it around the owner, the pup walking with it beside you is bang on.

Best of luck with her
