Back out on my own this morning , hard work after being out with Rabid yesterday , he picks deer up like their rabbits !Out before light again I sat & had a coffee in the van waiting for the light to break through. Before it was completely light I was laying down on the office steps watching 9or10 does & fawns feeding into the wind , which from my position meant they were walking diagonally away from me left to right ..no distance 80or so metres but not the best of shots , 10 minutes of laying on a cold wet yorkstone step finally paid of when the doe farthest away turned enough to be able to put a 6.5 through the chest , she flared right , did a couple of turns and fell kicking ,every thing else turned & ran back towards me , stopping to watch the fallen doe another fell , 40 mtr directly in front of me , panic ensued the remainder just went in what ever direction they were facing ....apart from a yearling which just stood still not knowing which way to run ..I made the choice for her ..3 down .....

Unlike Rabid I needed the quad , gone are my days of chucking them over my shoulder & wandering up hill whilst talking ...Actually even when younger I struggled ...I struggle know to lift the things onto the quad...but eventually after a couple of trips I had them round to the hoist ...Given it was still early I had a quick drive round to see if any more were about , there was but nothing I could get at so I set of back to gralloch the first three & there in the field by the offices more deer .To late to shoot the field again because of upsetting the office girls I watched for half an hour or so till they filtered into the next field down the slope & out of view of the staff ..leaving the quad I got into the ditch by the edge of the field worked my way down until I was in the same field , poked my head up to get a bearing , the deer were 100mtr across from me in a line almost square to me , it was a case of pick a victim ..the lead doe fell to the shot , the others spooked but stopped in a tight group looking at the old doe twitching , a split second before they all disappeared a yearling gave me an opportunity of a shot , she to fell ...back again for the quad , more lifting they joined the others .Five to gralloch I got to work ...54, 56, 61, 52, 58lb in the chiller , which is full to capacity ..luckily its being emptied today ..

Couldn't think of a better way to put quality meat on the table mate! Best of luck with rest of the season.
