I'll just not bother with another yet. He's only 7 months anyway and is coming on great, so I think that sounds about right in what your saying, i'll just focus on him. While i'm here, would you mind giving me a tip on how to best introduce him to coursing? Up to now all I've been doing is taking him in the woods and fields, letting him see a couple of rabbits, sniffing around warrens etc. Cheers Quote Link to post

roybo 2,873
He won't be lonely ,he has you! That's the way you should look at it a dog who has your undivided attention will do it's best for YOU. If you start doing so much work that the dog needs time off through injury etc consider it then, but that won't be for a few years,it's easy when new to dogs to think more is better ,but it's not.Your dog will be a better dog for the more sport you give him and when the time comes that you feel you need another you and your whippet will have learned so much more without distractions of another pup, ATB Roy Edited August 16, 2014 by roybo 3 Quote Link to post

morton 5,369
Hi, I'm looking to buy a Lurcher pup (bitch) to take out with my other dog, but don't know how to go about getting the right one for me. I want it mostly whippet, but with some greyhound, saluki and deerhound in it as well. Not sure what the sire and dam should look like to breed off? I'm willing to pay any amount for the right bred pup, just need to know about the breeding. Cheers You are making the major mistake of looking for a combination of mutts that rocks your boat, the whippet/deerhound combo in the mix will throw the litter and its hunting potential askew.Source a lurcher/lurcher bred pup from reliable stock that will suit the ground you work and your hunting lifestyle, nothing else should ever come into the equation.
