Tully Castle Festival And Dog Show Saturday 9Th August 14

Recommended Posts

Tully Castle , Enniskillen Dog Show Saturday 9th August 14

Tully Castle stands at the top of a south-facing slope on Tully Point on the west shore of Lower Lough Erne. The castle was built for Sir John Hume who occupied the house to it was burned down on Christmas Eve 1641. This castle has never been lived in again, but its ruins still stand at Tully Castle to day.

What a legacy and legend is the remains of this old ruined Castle, with its historic gardens and scenic views, and steeped in history from many centuries back. These beautiful surroundings were the back drop for Tully Castle Festival and dog show on Saturday 9th August 14.

As the morning clouds broke into sunshine, car loads of families from the local community, canine folk and their prized canine friends, and people from further afield, began to fill the car park very quickly. Soon the sound of barking dogs and playing children rang out over the beautiful valleys of the Fermanagh country side.

There was Tickety Moo ice cream, Kittys Kitchen for burgers and chips, flower and cake stalls, bouncy castle and other entertainment for the little people.Quite literally something for everybody at this great Festival in the shade of historic Tully Castle.

Churchill Silver Band was there with their own unique sound of music. As I strolled around, I stopped to hear them play the tune of ” Danny Boy”. What a professional rendering of a piece of music. It definitely tugged at my heart strings, and brought back memories of my childhood in Monaghan, when my mother would sing this song at Christmas parties in the old homestead. If we only could go back to those days came most to my mind. What a great group of people in The Churchill Silver Band, and all so professional at what they do. It was refreshing to listen to this beautiful music in such luxurious surroundings.

It was nice to see the grand old gentleman from Glenfarne, up there in lovely Leitrim. Yes it was Frank Maguire in the ring with his Terrier. You would think Frank had won the Lotto, when he got placed with his winning canine friend. What a lovely man of many years, and a lifetime of knowledge in the show ring. Long may it continue Frank.

The sun shone for most of the day, with the exception of a few light showers in the evening. Amid all the festivities, the Dog Show began at 2pm sharp. Some top quality dogs in the Whippet/Lurcher/Terriers and mixed breeds ring.

Here are the results of the showing :

And finally may I take this opportunity to thank Paul Reynolds, Whippet and Lurcher Judge, and the other 2 judges who judged the Terrier and mixed breed dogs. You carried out your duties with integrity and fairness.

I must not forget the lady behind the PR system Norma Heap. Norma you kept everything under control, and above all, you announced our moment of glory for all to hear on the day. Many thanks Norma and a job well done.

Gillian Carroll and all the other ring stewarts worked tirelessley in the ring, making everything run like clock work. All very efficient ladies, and so willing to help.

And finally, finally, a very special word of thanks to Scott Fallis, and Wesley Scott , and their brilliant band of helpers for a very enjoyable Festival and Dog Show. It was evident that a lot of hard work and organisation went on behind the scenes by these people, to make this Festival and Dog Show so successful.

Scott, Wesley and team, without your input ,this day would not of been so successful.

Scott, we all really enjoyed the show and the beauty of Tully Castle, and many thanks again for the memories. You are a real gentleman, and we are already looking forward to next years Festival.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
