Well folks,

The FEO from Gwent police named Mr Rowland came to visit today! Just like to sing his praises as he's a very nice guy who was not only professional but able to have a laugh as well! And also does a lot of shooting himself so is very knowledgeable!

Interview went well and safe approved! All guns I wanted were accepted, though some for target only, however we agreed on everything, and I am now much more informed on everything from closed tickets to the storage of guns in transport!

Now to wait for the land to be passed and hopefully my ticket should arrive in the next few weeks? What do you reckon guys?

I'm looking to get a 7.62x54 and .223 for target, and also a .17hmr and .22lr for vermin/aolq etc.

any advice on your favourite guns and why would be appreciated as there is so much choice!

Cheers,

Mitch

Yep nicely done mate, gun wise...if you chuck up some names of what your after I'm sure some of the guys on here can give you some sound advice.

If your going for 17hmr and 22lr then the first is only in bolt action then to me it would make sense to get a semi auto in the 22lr.

Just my opinion, any ideas on brands...4 rifles in one go is hell of a lot to go for.

Yer cheers mate. Looking at bolt action only as you say. Managed to get 800 rounds on the 7.62, 600 rounds on the .22 and .17 and 250 on the .223. He even asked if I wanted any more on the .223 but I declined as don't think of use that much due to the cost!

Will increase the .22 to 1000 though al I'll shoot 600 a month probs due to target once or twice a week!

Looking at the thumb hole CZ's but not sure of the difference between 452, 455, stainless etc etc!

Possibly weatherby vanguard for .223 and a mosin Nagant for 7.62. Does anyone know any other rifles that come chambered in 7.62x54?

Cheers,

Mitch

7.62 x 54 is a strange calibre to go for. Are you hoping to get a Russian rifIe? My ticket just says .308/7.62 which covers all eventualities. Good luck with your gun hunting.

Edited to add....Ahh..just read your last post and that explains it. :D

Seems like youve done some homework, got a cz455 thumbhole and its a cracking rifle..tad on the heavy side tho.

You seem to have and idea mate just have a feel and see what you like...what you've mentioned are all good rifles and only personal preference will get in the way.

When you said 7.62x54 I thought ..huh..you might wanna look for a straight pull SVT 40 aswell :) ..only kidding!

Straight pull SVT? Haven't done THAT much homework mate! Lol what's that?

I've had a little play with the 455 thin hole and it feels great. Although the guys at sportsmans Newport are dickheads so can't have a proper go really!

Is it too much to expect a few dry fires on a bench or an actual shoot of the rifle? Not too sure how it all works and the boundaries! Lol

Cheers,

Mitch

Well I go down SGC and they ain't to bad but then there was one nob but yeh until you got your FAC through they can be funny, that said try severnside range as I go down there with a mate every now and then...hopefully someone can let you have a go of there's and if I'm there come up and ask, sadly they dont let you try before you buy like in the states.

I was joking about the svt 40 but they do in fact do a convert from semi to straight pull if you look around ...its a semi auto Russian rifle I do believe in that calibre.

Yer I'm a member of Severnside range have been since 2012 :)

If you see me down there I'm the fat boy in the silver saab- used to have a little fiat 500 but rich will point me out if you mention that! Lmao

I exaggerate about SGC but yer it's almost like they won't accommodate me until I have the FAC and cash on the table!

Lmfao! Yer absolute legend!

I usually manage to get down there once a fortnight but been way to busy lately!

Although I'll have to work overtime to afford all these rifles I've put in for! Lol

Give me a nudge next time you're down mate! :)

Yeh will do mate, I take it your gunna reload?

So you already target shoot ..what do you currently use?

Yer might start to reload once I get a .308, depends on the cost and frequency of the mosin nagant!

Just using rich's .308 Parker hale and the ruger 10/22, not too fond of the ruger though as the trigger is extremely heavy. Thinking a 455 with a trigger job will suit me nicely :D

What do you shoot mostly?
