Tullylish Working Terrier Club Dog Show And Race Day Saturday 2Nd August 14

Recommended Posts

Tullylish Working Terrier Club Saturday 2nd August 14

The townland of Tullylish sits on the River Bann, and contains the villages of Gilford, Laurencetown, and Bleary. Deep in the heart of this beautiful countryside, with its magnificent scenery, was the venue for the Tullylish Dog Show and Race day last Saturday 2nd August 14. Although it rained heavy and continously all day, it did not take away from the quality, and organisation that went in to making this show so successful. As the old saying is “ The show must go on “ and John Barry and the Tullylish Working Terrier Club did just that.

As the Canine men, women and their little folk arrived in force with their prized Canine crew in tow, it was evident of the popularity of this brilliant show. Within minutes the waterproofs were out, trailers parked up, and the dogs made comfortable. These people are all used to following their 2nd love of Country Sports, and out in the fields in rain and snow in the hunting season, so a drop of rain does not bother anyone of them.

Over the past five years, during the summer dog show season, our shows have become real family days out. This was plain to see on Saturday by the turnout of families on the day. There was just a lovely homely atmosphere, good craic, and a few chin whacks with the good folk of the Canine community, despite the downfalls of torrential rain. This is what our dog shows are about, and this definitely did happen at Tullylish last Saturday.

As the rain continued to pour down , James Woods hunkered in under our umbrella. Well the craic and the slagging started. When Big John and James got in under that umbrella there was room for nobody else. Sean Burke joined in as well and the craic was ninty. It was all singing in the rain under that umbrella. Three quare boyos together.

Making my way around the rings, I bumped into Paul Reynolds/Chrissy Loughran, and Jason Dunwoody. The three wise men on a mission. That mission was a days enjoyment, with like minded people at a dog show. All three are good country sportsmen, and all looking forward to the hunting season, with the fourth wise man of the group John Shaw. O dear God what a combination, but full of good clean fun. I love them to bits.

The coursing started at approx 12.00 noon, followed by the showing and straight racing afterwards.

Here are the Overall Showing Results. Hope I got them right.

Big Congratulations to all the winners, and also to every one who took part. You are all winners in my eyes.

And finally the day would not be complete without thanking the Judges on the day. Despite the bad weather you all done a great job. Photographs were taken, and will be up on the sites shortly. I took some myself from my mobile, and are on my site on facebook.

And finally, Finally, I always leave the best to last. Despite the inclement weather on Saturday, Yes John Barry, you and your team are simply the best. You run your show in terrible weather conditions with impeccable organisation and skill. It was very evident a lot of preparation went on behind the scenes to make this show a most enjoyable day for everyone. All events went without a hitch, and some very happy people went home with another nice trophy for the mantle piece.

John, you are not just a good friend , you are gentleman and a honest and true sportsman. Thank you , and the Tullylish Working Terrier Club for another top class show this year, and hopefully we can enjoy more of the same again in 2015.

Margaret Mc Stay

Thanks hound dog 3, the weather conditions were awful, but i really enjoyed the show despite the heavy rain. Its a labour of love with me and Big (grumpy sometimes ) John, we have a laugh and and a bit of banter and craic with great country sports people. As we both are in Gods waiting room, we have to enjoy the few years we have left with our good canine friends.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
      Margaret Mc Stay
