DWTC Tom Barrys Dog Show and Race Day Sunday 27th July 14.

We set off bright and early on Sunday morning to Tom Barrys DWTC Dog Show and Raceday at Feaghbridge, Dog Track, Coalisland , Co Tyrone. As hunger had over taken us , we stopped off on the way to the show with some friends at the Cohannan Inn, and enjoyed a full Ulster fry. O boy did that go down well. With plenty of packing now in our stomachs , dogs and trailers in tow , we headed off towards Feaghbridge Dog Track Coalisland , and the start of another very enjoyable Dog show and Race day.

Feaghbridge Dog Track is situated on the outskirts of Coalisland, and runs along the shores of lough Neagh. This amazing dog track is purpose built, and is primarily designed to be the ultimate test for racing dogs. Many champion dogs started their training at this dog track, and went on to win a place in the history of the greats in the Canine world. This was a superb venue for Sundays dog show and race day.

There was some heavy showers of rain on the day, but this did not dampen the spirits of the show goers. As the old saying says: The show must go on, and in this case, it certainly did happen big time.

It was evident a lot of hard work and muscle went into this show and show ground, as the track was in mint condition, and the show rings well spaced out. Martin Lavery was there with all kinds of Country Sports items, including dog leads , dog dishes, and loads of dog meal. Every time I looked over at Martins stand there was a host of buyers around it. A burger van and ice cream van was also on site. Some little people gave these two areas some trade on the day.

It was nice to see such a large turnout of top quality Pups, Lurchers, Terriers , Whippets and Strong Dogs. Again every show I went to this year North and South of the border, I have seen and spoken to quite a few new faces, all getting interested in this great Country Sport of ours during the summer showing season.

Along the way I stopped and had a very interesting conversation about dogs and dog breeds with Darren Mackin. Darren is so proud of his lovely black lurcher, and just an all round very proud country sports man. For his young years, Darren is very knowledgeable on the canine trail, not at all a chip of the old block. Move over Dessie, you have some competition under your roof.

I also spoke to Ged Brady, who travelled up from the South of Ireland for the show, and another new face for me. Davy Duck Caller was there with his mates and really enjoying the show. All a lovely bunch of true Country Sportsmen, and all out for a good days craic among like minded people.

The little people were out in strength on Sunday with their parents. No school for 2 months was all I could hear, as they lead their faithful friends around the ring in the childrens handling class. These little people were all winners in the ring on Sunday, and all won a medal, goody bag full of sweets and chews, lovingly all made up for these children by Morgan Barry. Well done Morgan. Some sleepy heads and tired little feet on Sunday night.

Another big attraction at Sundays show was the raffle. I was very lucky, as I won a large bottle of BOZO vodka, and my raffle loving husband John won a very good dog lead and collar. That kept him happy for the rest of the day.

The Racing started at 12.30 noon, and was followed by the showing. Here are some results.

Congratulations to all the winners both in Showing and racing, and well done to all.

At this point, let me offer our congratulations to Gary Mitchell on winning Clubman of the year, for all his help and dedication to the DWTC during the year. A very worthy winner. Daughters Shannon and Tracy will be very proud of their daddy.

And Finally, may I take this opportunity to thank the judges Mike Tomlinson /John Crothers/Robert Milligan for a job well done. One person who helps every year at this show is Conor ( Dude) Mc Kiverigan from Donegall. Conor without people like you helping at every corner, this show would not be so successful. Billy Harpur and Bluebell were there taking photographs of our Canine friends. Looking forward to seeing them up on the sites shortly. We must not forget Feaghbridge track and James O Neill for all his help and kindness on the day. It was much appreciated James.

And Finally, Finally, this special accolade goes to Team Barry. What a lovely family. Tom and Leanne, you should be very proud parents of Morgan and Ethan Barry. They both worked tirelessly at your show and they are a credit to you both. Many thanks Tom and Leanne for a top class dog show and a most enjoyable day. It was evident all your hard work and sleepless nights paid off.

Valerie and Davy Best asked me to convey their thanks to you both, and most sincerely for your kindness to her and making her feel so special by on the day, by keeping her a parking place beside the ring , as Valerie is wheel chair bound. You looked after us all on the day, and for that we are truly thankful.

It should be noted Tom and Leanne gave a donation from this show to the Dog Rehoming Centre, and Cruise Charities. Not only are we enjoying ourselves at these shows, but the revenue that is generated by supporting our shows, is helping to make some animal or human beings life a little more comfortable in some little way. What a reward.

Many thanks Team Barry for a very memorable day, and I am looking forward to more of the same again next year.

A Tribute to the late John Shaw who passed away  last Thursday 6th November 25

      I Am Free
Do not grieve for me now my  friends and family, I am free
I am following the path God Laid for me
I took his hand when I heard him call
I turned my back and left it all
I could not stay another day
To Love, to live, to hunt, to show my treasured Whippets, or play.
I found a peace at close of day.
Be not burdened with the times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Do not lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your hearts my friends and share with me
      God wanted me now,
      He set me free.
John, we will love you forever and you will be sadly missed by your loving family and all your Country Sporting Fraternity and in the show ring.
May the Angels above give you the best seat in Heaven and may your gentle soul rest in peace.
      For Country Sports Fraternity
