Outing With The 97Kt

Recommended Posts

First time out at the club this evening with the 97. Firstly. I can see what all the fuss is about.

After spending an hour or two with my 98, which went well, I thought let's have a bash. First few shots were different to my 98, to be expected, but it might be down to the calibre change and no v-Mach kit, it's brand new too, 200 shots in.

I'm so used to the 177 flight too, pretty much straight @ 25-35 yards, the 22 from a spring rifle is sum what different. Naturally. 98/177 felt like I was punching holes with a needle in the target, the 97/22 kinda made me think of throwing a small stone, all be it through the same hole'ish.

One thing that I didn't like. As we all know, shooting a spring rifle is so much about the consistency of hold, the thumb hole stock on the 97kt doesn't promoted good shooting, for me personally. The thumb hole encourages you to grip the pistol grip, (of course it does) which almost makes you try to 'control the rifle' to much. I'd would be great if HW incorporated a thumb up position, which allows the rifle to almost float in the shoulder, and sit on the leading hand. This is me personally, and I found that my groups where tighter lightly holding the rifle, which is to be expected, but the thumb hole stock almost made me want to hinder this light hold. I don't know if that made sense. I guess it's different shooting styles.

Overall, it's flaming accurate. In 22 it's perfect as a hunting set up and no doubt will be mine. I found that it was just as accurate as my scorpion, giving that that's a 22 too... It just doesn't seem as 'precise' as the 98 in 177 and menace mounted on top. Thoughts?

Furthermore. Does anyone know what the stocks actually made from and will it file down? I'm thinking if filing a small thumb up position into the stock, just behind the action. Thanks in advance.

I've never shot with either a 97 or 98. Only 35, 77 & 80 models. I thought the standard hw 35's & 80's were a bit twangy? Should be good with a v-mach kit or similar fitted though. My favourite was a feinwerkbau sport and they've started making them again, so I'll be taking a look when they hit the shops....
