hi guys found a tick on my ferret today, they are keept in a weld mesh cage and she had a tick on her head, the only meat that i have fed them in the last few weeks is a jackdaw. has anyone else heard of ticks on birds?? its the only way that we can think she may have got it on her from.

You do get ticks on birds, and it could have come in with the jackdaw. Freezing game for a fortnight will sort it though. Another likely cause is straw and hay used for bedding.

i use a tea tree oil mix spray them as i rub over them with my hands and it seems to keep them off and theres a lot of pigs around here so the earths are home to them

I fed mine a crow the other week what the dog caught fed it to the ferrets and 2 days later both ferrets were covered in them there were about 15 on each ferret never seen so many. Will be checking what I feed them from now in the summer months.

Sounds like it did come from the jackdaw and as said freezing sorts that out but is there anything that could of passed the run and passed it on , like a cat etc

Get some butox 7:5 its for cattle and sheep. Put a few drops on your ferret and that should work. I've never had ticks on my ferrets but it works on dogs pigs cats chickens be it be lice thicks fleas
