Robie_n 10
Might sound daft but can I take my 10month old pup out on a public field practicing his retrieving a DUMMY on the lamp or will this be seen as in per suite ? I know it's asking for trouble in a built up area like I'd be out the way abit I don't have any permissions I could get him night trained on at the Minuit. Quote Link to post

Blackdog92 2,047
If you live in a built up area is there not a park or anything like that you could practice in? Quote Link to post
dymented 2,220
Its not illegal But if you cannot give a reasonable excuse to the police ( ie just going or coming from permission ) im pretty sure they will knick you they don't need a lot of encouragement to do it as 99% of the police believe that hunting with dogs is illegal which we all no its still perfectly legal to hunt rats , rabbits and use a dog to retrieve a variety of shot game 2 Quote Link to post
Dengil 27
No offence at all mate, if you get pulled just tell them exactly what you doing, if dark your the same as most dog walkers out at night who take torches etc out with them. If your in possession of a dummy it could never be proven that you were hunting in pursuit of game unless you were caught in the act and not carrying out some dog training it would go nowhere mate, i'd crack on with it. Robie_n 10
Thanks for the replies It is quite a built up area I got pulled afew months back day time on the field getting the pup retrieving to be fair they were interested they never seen it before thought I was gunna get ear ache turned out they just wanted to warn me about the quads flying about that's why I posted the cops didn't know what retrieving was exactly what you said about them assuming I'm hunting with a dog on a lamp Quote Link to post
CorkyJohn 808
Why do you feel the need to practice retrieving in the dark? Make sure you get the recall & retrieving spot on through the day & you shouldn't have any problems. Have you been watching Purdeys Progress? Lol 1 Quote Link to post
