Outlaw Pete 2,224
Chuffed to f**kin bits! Just got This! And what a Quality little thing it is too! €15.00?! How the F**k do they knock them out at That price?! Proper cage front. Brass screws (and cups!). Good, thick ply wood! Proper handle ..... There's no way I'd be getting out of bed to make these, for fifteen yo's! I'm absolutely f**king delighted with it. And I shall now, quietly and slowly, dismantle its component parts. Then paint it, with the care and attention it's so richly deserving of. Time I've finished, I want anyone who sees me turn up for a bird to think; " F**k me! This guy won't f**k about with my birds! Just look at the f**kin carry cage he's brought along! " Ye'll not see me turning up with the bird mans version of a tosco's f**king carrier bag!

fireman 11,472
Silicon the joins for a bit extra mite protection as i'm sure it'll have a few different sorts of birds in it in time and i've a rung (your lot ring )Blackbird cock been visiting my bird table,i've been watching the Blackbirds nesting in my garden all spring and i've not senn this fella before.I've tried and tried to take a pic where i can see him number on his ring but no chance and i ain't catching him as i haven't the legal powers to do so or the big enough trap .I'll get a pic of him up soon. Outlaw Pete 2,224
Fires, that's f**king brilliant ~ about the blackbird! Unfortunately, ye really haven't got a cellophane rat in hells chance of getting that damn number. No way on gods little green earth! Here ye go. Let me try to illustrate this. Below is a Woodpigeon sized ring, look. And, next to it, an 'A' ring. A rings fit the sort of stuff you'll be dealing with. Blackbirds take a 'C'. Woodies are 'F'! Now, imagine trying to read that thumping great ring on a woodie? Absolutely No f**king chance! The numbers go right round it. We need to turn the ring in our fingers to read the lot. Blackbird then ....? Forget it! What a bloody shame though, eh? Some bugger might be ringing close by to you. Or he could even be a Ruskie, stayed behind! The ringer in me So wants to know! fireman 11,472
I want to know where he's come from as the pair i've had nesting in my garden haven't been taking nicely to strangers and i'm rather suprised he's here nless someone has caught him local and rung him as my misses was watching him first thing this morning feeding two fledglings on the same table so he's been here a while.Who or where could i find out who's the nearest ringer who could recatch him pete?. Is he wearing a new ring or old one pete, can you tell?.
Outlaw Pete 2,224
Well, he's wearing one of our rings, mate. I'm pretty sure of that. What's more, it looks like a series " L " something one too. (Doesn't that first character look like an L, to you?) Now; I'm holding L series " C " rings myself, right now. Putting them on my starlings. Blackbirds take a " C " too. Mine were bought about the start of this year, end of last. So, it makes sense that who ever ringed that bird bought theirs around that time too. Hard to say, visually, if a ring's new or 'old'. Aluminium doesn't tend to do much with age, of course. But, yeah; As much I can deduce from what we have to work with then? I'd suggest he's been ringed, properly, by a licensed ringer. Probably in the last year. Maybe as a nestling, last year? Who knows? Possibly as a two year old, last week! Unfortunately, there's no way that I know of, to find individual ringers in a given area. Ye can search for Trainers, sure. But, like, I'm not a Trainer. And I'm pretty much known only to my boss and HQ. And they won't hand my details out to anyone either. Nor anyone else's to me. Bingo! What ye could do, look, is to go to the BTO Ringers site and search for a Trainer, nearest to you. Drop them a line and ask what they think? Just possible they'd have a C Permit holder working near you ....? Or go straight to HQ and ask them. Although, I'm afraid, they're really rather busy right now. Frankly, I doubt anyone would have the time to do and type even what I have They'd probably have to politely explain that there's no telling What the bird's about. Now; Bird with one of our rings, and a coloured ring? They could give ye chapter and verse on that
fireman 11,472
Yes i'd say a L as well and had a look on the camera and it looks like a L on there not that it's much clearer,i'll get in touch with the BTO and try to find out who's the local trainer and try to take it from there and the sparrow population i have in the ivy on the side of my house would give a trainee a good training day as it were as there's a good few nesting in there . Outlaw Pete 2,224
the sparrow population i have in the ivy on the side of my house would give a trainee a good training day as it were ..... Oh, Pul Eeease!!! North facing wall, out of interest ....? I've only now got the sparrows back here. They went up top, while Debby was there and throwing bird feed around willy nilly. Now, I've just managed to bring the small flock here. My secret bait formula gets me three or four visits a day. Adults fetching the young, to feed. I'm steadily eating my way into them. Must have caught eight or more in the last couple of days trapping. Got their measure now though. I have to ring them All!!!
fireman 11,472
South facing as it goes but it's deep so has plenty of shade from the direct sun and the sound of chicks calling to be fed first is a regular thing ,i will get on it wth the BTO and see what i can do .
