jigsaw 11,905
the THAMES VALLEY LURCHER SOCIETY??? I was at a meeting in london at one point, representative for the irish (god help em,lol)I stayed with a chap called tony,in speen,, newbury berks, and met phil lloyd in notts at a game fair, anyone have any knowledge as to what became of it all?that was in and around 1984/85.I knew 2 miners there also,G.James and J DAVIS,well into their lurchers and kept a few beddys also, ferrets.I travelled as a raw and very innocent young man back then.Jesus wept but the folk there hadnt a clue as to what the hell I was saying almost all of the time .went to the pub and was pissed after 8 or 9 pints...(still the same today) I saw my 1st ever show there, and it was in actual fact a game fair, the likes I had never seen before,I was awe struck, bought my first ever proper lurcher there,I named him CLOUDY and he was sal/g.h x collie/g.h..I still to this day remember the breeder,R BURTON(no not elizabeths hubby, lol). He was from sandiacre notts,I still remember the adresses I stayed in and the folk I met.it had an influence on me that is with me still today.I saw the dogs do obedience in the show and decided thats what I wanted from my dogs.Believe it or not I bought a beddy x from another stranger, got no name for this chap, and I took them home toIreland by coach and ferry, under my arm,I was detained at the ferry by the cops there as my uncle was a bit of a naughty boy and they wanted to know what I knew.after an hour and a half of the boys interrogating me I was left proceed and then got another coach for 3 hrs back to my native city,When I recall it,I must have been nuts lol.At 23 yrs old I sure was enthusiastic cloudy above took a ton of foxes and hundreds of rabbits for me over the years,he took pheasant and pigeon on take off on more than one occasion,he was a very good dog but for 1 thing. When my eldest son was born,he was found to be untrustworthy with him.He one day growled at my son and he was only 12 months old.He was banished forever after that to the back garden, never to be trusted again.I did at the same visit buy a russell pup from Ken Gould and Visited David Hancock, all done by train/bus/taxi remember,It was the trip of my young life at the time.Just thought id write this down,be interesting reading I thought.I still have a photo of Mr.lloyd and me and mr hancock in his property, when I was just a slip of a lad, skinny and fit and with no baggage from life unlike today, Edited May 25, 2014 by jigsaw 7 Quote Link to post
