Katsdad 31
Hi all my albino Jill just had her first litter 6 in all and they all seem fine at present, one is about half the size of rest but it's got plenty of life in it? Questions? When is it safe to handle them as don't want mum to reject them. Is there anything we need to be doing apart from letting mum take care of them. Does mum need anything extra in her diet?we feed chicken whole and carcass. What about dad he's still in with them but don't seem to be bothered with them, apart from that mum won't let him near them. Any other advice They are now a week old and starting to move out of nest. Not having had anything to do with kits before some advice would be handy Thanks Tim Quote Link to post
dogmad riley 1,354
If I was you I would seperate the hob asap had hobs kill kits at 6 week old. Kits should be fine just keep the hutch clean. Iv always been able to handle kits from day 1 but best to leave it a week or 2, and leave the jill in peace. From about 4 weeks they will be wanting meat so put a rabbit in with them and they should be fine. Quote Link to post
The one 8,595
Aye i also would take the hob out straight away , leave the jill alone she should manage fine herself and be careful about the amount your feeding her you dont want her storing the remains in the nest area as flys will lay there eggs and when they hatch the maggots will start on the kits , but as said once there three weeks old put meat in the nest box and although the kits wont eat it they will suck the juices off it Quote Link to post

The one 8,595
Aye and time there six weeks old you can see a big difference between meat feed kits and dry fed kits Quote Link to post
vanman1 411
Defo remove the hobb as for handling young it depends on your jill, i have one that will let me from birth i have another that i need to leave well alone! If in doubt leave alone is my advice. Quote Link to post
lifelong cumbrian 1,829
These ones are 6 weeks tomorrow, been coming out of nest to rabbit for about week and a half. Been handling them a couple of week, nice and tame and friendly with the dog. 2 Quote Link to post
