chrismdd 787
Well its been a long time since I fished the river what with all this flooding down here in Somerset. Anyway walking the dog this morning down at the river there was still a lot of flow but there was a nice bit of colour. I would only have a couple hours maximum available today so this afternoon I sorted out some simple gear in the form of my ultralight Silstar Matchpicker tip rod. The only bait I had was some sweetcorn and half a dozen sorry looking lobworms that had been in a tub since before xmas! Anyway it would still be good to get out so walked down to the river and went to the second field and set up just above a natural raft on the first long straight. Chucked in some corn and whilst waiting cast out one of the lobs close in under the raft, bang went the tip taking me completely by surprise and a late strike missed, what a muppet! - how many times do I remember from past experience that the first cast gets a response. Well now I was switched on so next cast a chub of over a pound and a half, third cast a stonking bite but missed, fourth bite a chub over two pound, more bites on my remaining lobworms including a lovely looking roach. Now I had to resort to the corn, they took a while to switch on to this as the light started to fade but eventually I was reeling some roach and dace in superb condition. And this was just one and a half hours actual fishing. Nothing huge but just great to be back out again and knowing that the fish have not been washed away! So if the water dosen't rise much more I would definitely recommend getting some lobworms and getting down to your river as the fish are definitely switched on as the season draws to a close. NEWKID 29,047
Great result mate, I'm gonna grab a few short trips before the rivers close, fish should be feeding well now, especially with the weather as it is.. Quote Link to post
