Cold Room Set Up

Recommended Posts

What would the chiller unit be like for one of these?

Gaz; Ye just use the bare guts of a fridge. Take all the extraneous white stuff away. Then add ye own 'box'. It's old hat in Home Brew circles ;)

Then, ye get an STC 1000 (Less than a score, on average) and ye good to go.

F**king Kingspan would be the eye watering part! :icon_eek:

a mate of a mate quoted me 1300 .....

:icon_eek: I think I'd have to reconsider my relationship with any " Mate " who wanted to rush me That sort of money, 'Meat!

I mean, f**k me; I'm perfectly Delighted to be stood corrected by any passing Refrigeration Engineers who'd care to disavow me of what I'm given to understand?

I mean, I've never actually made one of these things. Simply no use for one. But, enough lads on the beer forums do. I'm actually planning to make the other way, as we speak.

I need a 'Warm Cabinet' to ferment my beer in. Others use Cold Cabinets (Yeah, alright; F**king great fridges) to Cold Condition their beers in. In five gallon batches, this is.

Basic principle is the same though. Beer or deer. Well insulated, wet proofed and wipe able surface lined chamber.

See what that guy's done? Stripped out the motor and tubing from a fridge / freezer. It's basically the shit at the back. Then, a couple of pipes lead off to a grill. I believe that's the grill, visible, though disguised, in the back of that cabinet. Middle picture.

Just dig all the pipe work out of a fridge or freezer, as ye dismantle it. FFS, don't pierce a pipe though! More ammonia will be yours than a thousand babies piss can generate! :icon_eek:

Fit said grill of cold getting pipes into your own version of their new fridge / freezer home. Plug in ye STC 1000, set to how cold ye want it. Get the f**k out of there, or be made cold!

It really Is that simple. STC acts like a Reverse Heater Thermostat. It simply tells the cooler unit to keep on going, generating more and more coldness, till it gets down to - x degrees. Then allows it to switch off. Back on when it gets warmer .....

In no time, ye have a self regulated Cold Storage Unit.

Can ye not, Now, see how simple it is? icon_neutral_zpsf88c927b.gif

isnt that a handy job, neat and obscure at the same time...............when I win the lotto .

Search for second hand cold rooms I used to fit them years ago, piece of piss to set up and you could get one under a grand complete with satellite compressor

When you put it up, silicone between each panel before you lock them together give you a very nice sealed fit. Make sure the compressor is gassed up (if not you could probably get a refrigeration engineer to do it for under a ton  ) only tools you'll need is Allen key, map gas, flux and rods :victory:
