Sold the pair of grey parrots due to time ,mess and space. But it's kind of empty here

Wife mentioned getting a cocktail but I suggested pair of Canaries.

Quick search on here and fifes seem best ,so how do I tell a good quality pair from rubbish.

And as I never kept Canaries before any tips.they will be in the front room.as want to hear the cock sing a bit.

I'm no canary man in any way but when i was buying some at a bird sale for someone else i walked the whole sale, looked at the state of the cages, birds and even the folks selling them and i chose from the ones who i thought were the healthest, cleanest and brightest of eye.The array of rosettes around some of the cages didn't really turn my head as it were but it does show the seller is either a total con or a person proud of what hiis bird stud can do and 5 mins of chatting will soon show you which one it is  .If show quality does not matter then go for something you like the look of as your'll be looking at it every day and study them for a bit first, don't be buying something that looks fluffed all the time,is very lazy and not really wanting to move and anything with poorly looking eyes or weeping nostrils, any of these on a bird then walk away mate.but a active bird, clean of eye and beak and equaly as important a bird you like and not just because it's there is what you want and i wish you the best of luck with it all :victory:

after havin pigeons and canaries (glosters), i got rid to spend more time/effort with mutts. i was in same boat, seemed wierd without a bird about, we opted for a young cock budgie in end, lot tamer than canaries, less hassle than parrots, and added bonus the kids get him out and teach him to talk and tricks lol might be worth thinking about forest??lol
