WHAT,i was saying in plain english, was if you work your dog ,do,nt worry about it, i,ve mentioned the cheating, and i myself if i showed my dog ,would be has sick as the next ,if it was unfair, but that is human nature with some folk ,they will do anything to win, has for the judge, most are honest, so if they pick a dog they like , thats that, its thier choice, you just have to abide by it.

That's well said Vixen.

That's why crooked judges do make a difference - punters get p'd off when they see a judge placing his mate's dogs, or dogs he likes rather than the best dogs on the day. So they go home instead of showing and don't support that show next year and the charity or hunt or club doesn't get as much money. Probably never knows why.

I've done me time organising shows for fundraising (no more! :11: ) and I kept a blacklist of judges then, as well as a list of straight ones.

If your pound coin entrance is going to a good cause fair enough if not then you are just paying a pound for someone elses opinion of your dog for whatever thats worth.Yes the majority of shows are fixed either through pressure of seeing a famous name or through the old pals act.Personaly I wouldnt buy a terrier that had show lines in it for digging some will dissagree but I wouldnt, show dogs for shows workers for digging.Any reasonably bred lurcher will catch rabbits show or work bred if you want more than that a show bred dog isnt what you want, this is of course only my opinion.

The problem is that at these little Hunt type Shows, you get all the guys trying to qualify for the bigger ones. They have their typey Dogs, and sometimes Dogs that have cost a fair bit because they are from nice stuff etc. Most Shows have a qualifier for this and that Show, which is what brings the Show people to them. I have heard it myself at Shows where, so called Names, have said they are not going to this or that Show because it is not a qualifier for a specific Show they wanted to qualify for and to go to. Nothing ever gets said about supporting that particular Hunt or cause. The opposite has also happened, where they have gone to a small Show because they know others have gone somewhere else and have a better chance of qualifying for a bigger Show. This is sometimes done with their number two or three Show Dog, as the competition in the Ring isn't as fierce because no Names are going to be there. This way they can travel knowing they have at least two or three qualified Dogs to go with, with another few in tow to qualify on the Day.You only have to stand and listen to them talking guys, the clues are there.

Regular Show goers do the circuit, and the now and then people do just that they go now and then. They see Names go into the Ring and know they are throwing their money away with their Dog that perhaps is undershot or has flat Feet, but has and does do the business. £1 is not a lot to go into a Show I guess, but to just throw it away and waist your time to make the numbers up? The guys that win these Shows eventually get invited to Judge, because they know a good Dog(!?) or so that's how they get labelled. Then that is how the Show scene has gotten so cut throat and serious and will continue to do so. This is where the 'in-fighting' within the Show brigade comes from too. Many fall outs have occured because a certain Judge put someones Dog up over a person when they put this Judges Dog up the Week before!!!........Just watch the expression on their Faces when that happens!!......lmao.

Breed specific Judges can also be just as bad. Patterdale men or Bull Greyhound men choose them over a better 'type' of a different Breed or cross. If the one they choose is a good representative of the Breed/cross then great, if they are chosen just because they are black or big headed is a crime.

If you go to Shows it is a question of knowing, or thinking you know, the sort of things that go on and are prepared to accept them. Anybody who says lots of the Shows aren't 'engineered' is a liar or deluded. Once again if the intention is to go to a Show with supporting the cause in the front of your mind fantastic, with the possiblity of doing ok thumbs up, if it is to win the Show then you have to accept what happens.

I could Name Names of several guys who have done various things that would be classed as 'Gamesmanship' by them, but not true working terrier men. I can't put any Names up here as they wouldn't stay here, due to editing. I am not sure I want to give them any space in this Post either....lmao. A lot of them will go out of their way to prove theirs works, to a fashion, though.

The responsibilty lies in the Laps of the Organisers and then the Judges for the way Shows have gone, some of these Shows are like a mini Crufts. This Topic has been discussed many times. JUST REMEMBER IT IS A GOOD PLACE TO MEET UP, CHAT AND FIND OUT HOW THE WINTER WENT. KEEP IN THE FRONT OF YOUR MIND AND TAKE SOLACE FROM THE FACT THAT THE SHOW BRIGADE ARE THE WANNABE'S! It is nice to see a genuine working Dog get through the Net occasionally.

friend of the family used to showdeerhounds at crufts and the like, when she died, being sentimental fools, we had to take the dogs to the memorial service(bad plan) coming out of the church, a 'friend' of the deceased, feloow shower of deerhounds and judge stopped and announced loudly to all and sundry 'cecily always breed such ugly dogs..'

dog shows? rather watch the terrier racing..

Did anyone see the puppy class at Wolsingham? A mate of mine won with a little rough coated grey bitch. She will be defo working when the time comes. I guess Al has the right idea in that the shows are just a chance to meet mates, enjoy the weather and take some pride in his dog. Bloody big shield that he won though  :11:
