koko patterdale 17
my pals patterdale barks when we cross fence or wall, she appears to be the dominant dog in our small pack of 4 terriers but when the barking escalates my smaller patterdale bitch challenges her and a full blown fight ensues. The smaller dog comes out on top but the next time they meet the same thing happens again and again. what's going on? Any advice would be appreciated Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
Split it, give em both a good hide in to tell em your the boss, if it persists, keep em apart Quote Link to post
DazAllison1 556
My uncle had 2 pattt bitches from the same litter and they had to be kept apart 24/7 or they would fight till the death, they had a real hatred for each other but were fine with other dogs, I think there's just some that don't get on atall Quote Link to post
Grinder 102
How old are they and what kind of prey drive do they have... Are you bushing, ratting or digging them ? Quote Link to post

koko patterdale 17
the dogs are bushing, both dogs are 3, my little dog has strong prey drive other dog not as much. What i don't get is pals dog behaves like she is the dominant dog and my dog accepts this until the barking at fence etc then they fight and to date my little bitch has won the dominance battle. Grinder 102
She may just need more work too satisfy her prey drive... Or perhaps they just don't like each ... Do they do it when you go through gates ? Quote Link to post
koko patterdale 17
hi Grinder thanks for the help thats a yes to the gate, pals dog wants to be first through and will snap at other dogs to be first. All the other dogs tolerate this but when the barking stats so does my little bitch. Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Does the dog act this way (barking etc) when it's on its own at walls and fences? Or is just in the company of other dogs Quote Link to post
koko patterdale 17
does it all the time, if my pals out on his own with the dog she will still bark when he crosses an obstacles Quote Link to post
Plummerterrier 291
That's how I ended up with my Plummer .my old man decided to get two . The odd squabble when out if one had a rabbit or rat and the other tried to take it but as soon as they got through the gate to the house all hell broke loose so I ended up taking one . Think it's a dominance thing Quote Link to post
slip lead 862
Could be an anxiety thing (has the dog ever injured him self or fell from a high wall) the other dog attack because his confused with behavior or sees it as a weekness. A bit like when a dog has a fit and some dogs will have a go. Your friend should try the dog in his garden going over small obstacles for treats slowly building up his confidence Happy Hunting Quote Link to post
