Gloop 5
Yes. On a windy day stick to sheltered hedges or just don't bother going out. Or keep to shorter distances. And I love my HMR. Quote Link to post

dadioles 68
Are the 17g v-max really that bad in windy conditions? Some say yes an some say no. What are your thoughts? It depends on what you are comparing them with and what your expectations are. I have seen figures (Varmint Al and others) which show that the .22lr is affected more by the wind than the .17hmr. At 100 yards with a 90 degree 10mph crosswind the hmr was deflected about 3 inches and the .22lr about 5 inches. At 50 yards the wind still affects the .22lr slightly more than the hmr but for all practical purposes it is about one inch. So what can you conclude from that? I shoot rabbits and most of the time go for head shots. Wind is often a bit gusty rather than steady and as distances increase the wind bounces around in an unpredictable fashion. For me, if it is windy, I prefer to reduce my shooting distance rather than risk wounding as the result of getting the wind wrong. Given a choice between hmr and .22lr in windy conditions I will always choose the hmr assuming issues of noise do not come into it. Quote Link to post
