Bang! Crash! Pesticle; No!!!

Recommended Posts

:icon_eek: It's just happened, so it's all dead fresh! I've been sitting here, quietly doing a bit of wire mesh work for a new trap I have. Dogs all laying around, watching me. Silence.

Then, there's a crash, in the kitchen. Pest starts going mad at the door. Then, there's a thump.

Insanely, my first thought was that Phil Lloyd was out there! (Yeah! Like; What the F**k goes on in my head?!?)

Then, more rationally and much scarier, I hoped to god that brand new trap that I'd just undercoated hadn't slipped to the floor and broken.

Anyway, just finished what I was doing and opened the door to check. And it all sort of happened at once:

Pesticle crashed past me and lunged into the room. I thought, fleetingly, " Now Phil's f**ked! " Then all hell let loose!

Pest is scrabbling about, trying to grab a f**king bird! And it's no coal tit either! I've yelled out, " Pesticle! NO! " and, thankfully, she's come away.

I sent her back in here. Locked this door. Then dashed to close the slightly open top half of the front door, where out visitor had obviously got in.

I had this mental impression of what was probably a blackbird. But, there was something abnormal about it.

Turning round, I saw the bird properly ~ as it launched off and flew over my head. Before coming back to smack into the glass of the back door.

That's when I managed to grab the bugger. And, as my boss has always told me; " If ye get a bird in ye hands ....? " What's a man to do? :whistling:

Here he is .....

Would ye believe; My first ever Adult Starling! :toast:

Yeppers. Rung scores of shitty chicks. Never had an adult before though ~ cos they tend not to get into sparrow traps! :D

What? Phil, in my kitchen? That's happened before!

Funny; I always taught my own Dogs " Leave It! ". But, it just goes to show; Completely spontaneous episode. I was acting on instinct, rather than prepared training.

Thankfully, Pest is such a good little thing she generally does as she's told, however she's told it :D

I must have a word with my boss, mate. I have some cage traps here that'd take starlings. And, thanks to Brewz and Leeview, I now have my bow trap netted and about ready to deploy.

Catching the birds that nest in my boxes would be easy enough. I'm thoroughly familiar with fitting the C rings they take. I know how to sex them. All I need now is to get up to speed on the ageing criteria and boosh! Give me that endorsement!

Starlings are one of my favourite birds. It'd be a real privilege to be able to get amongst the adults
