Injured Dog

Recommended Posts

alright lads,

was out lamping last night and unfortunately my dog hit a wire fence square on, he has a nasty graze on his chest which has removed a 2 inch section of is fur and most worryingly some quite visible swelling on the top of his shoulders. It is obvious to say that I shat my pants, however, he yelped, got up and trotted over, bless him, I was very relieved. He walked back to the car ok, he was fed and put in his kennel straight away.

This morning, the swelling has reduced somewhat but is still visible, the dog seems ok, but I can definitely tell he is sore. I am compensating taking him to the vets to get it checked over however the dog is not insured. I don't really want to waste money on something which is not that much of an issue. The obvious suggestion is rest and comfort but the vet is a professional and will know best???!!!?!?! This is my 1st dog and I haven't experienced this before so...

Has anyone experienced injury's of this manner, what did you do, how long did you leave it till you took him/not take him to a vet?

any advice or comments appreciated,

cheers ATB,

A trip to the vet woudlnt go a miss imo

yeh let him have a look if, not because of the cut, because warm water with drop of tcp will clean that up,and should be ok, but the shoulder it self let the vet have good feel of it just to be on the safe side. my pup put ripped his shoulder muscle was out of action for 10 weeks, is ok now so its worth seeing the somebody who knows what there doing

hope u don't mind me asking, how much did this visit cost you? :whistling:

no prob, 2 visits 70£ quid, then I travelled up to Newcastle to see a bone ban Steve Duncan who was BRILL. he said the same as the vet regards rest and what to do for 2 weeks after regards exercise , it only cost me full tank of diesel , he didn't want any money great bloke

If it was one of my dogs I'd stick him in the mag box, but you probably won't have one.

Go to Holland & Barrett and get some arnica tablets, and put some in his food, it'll tell you how many on the tub, this helps bring out any bruising, also witch Hazel is good for bruising, but not on a open wound.

Good luck anyway, hope you get him sorted.
