tong po 129
the dog is ok in himself walking and running around the garden as if nothing is wrong and doesn't complain when you squeeze or rub the thigh. Quote Link to post

tong po 129
thanks for the thread skycat it looks like its the same problem as my dog has only it didn't bruise like the one in the picture it looked more like stretch marks then the swelling came after a couple of days.He had an unsighted run in the rain on a very muddy field but has never showed any signs of lameness even on the night it happened Quote Link to post
paulus 26
taken from a greyhound forum, half seem to go down the surgical route the other half follow roughly this regime from my understanding, you are correct that IF it is torn from the bottom end, your chances are far better than the reverse. whilst you have given plenty of convalesence to the dog, its what you didnt do ? in between when he injured himself, and when you began running him again. what i would do now (dont know when you galloped him) is to begin icing only NOT HEAT, and do this twice a day for the next few days to reduce swelling. once the swelling has subsided? then commence with flexion of the muscle/leg, along with ultrasound or muscle contraction if you have one...for approx; 5-7 days.....then do it on a day on day off for probably another month....massaging again after each treatment with an iodised oil to get the muscles supple again....its very important to also massage ALL THE MUSCLES SURROUNDING the gracillus, so they become supple and counteracts anty stiffness...you virtually have to massage that entire leg and extend and flex that leg....physio is a huge importance in any comeback with this type of injury. i feel you just went a tad early, so hopefully he will recover. but do the work and NEVER STOP MASSAGING AND FLEXING.....as soon as you think he's fully recovered and dont need it again...bang...its gone and gone for good. recovery is pretty good if you do the work, but the chances of re doing it are very high....so you have to take as much caution as possible, and do the work continuosly. good luck scott, they can race again with that type of injury, but , and its a big but, the just may do it again...so be prepared. daz Quote Link to post
