Bully cocks ....? Wow!

I'm quite okay about seeing bullies round here. They're not a rarity in my area. But, on my feeders? F**k no! Never in my life.

What are ye offering there? I've narrowed it down to offering just peanuts, from feeders hung off a taught wire. That stops rats. But, I'm now having sly thoughts about nyger, in their specialised feeders, to try for goldies.

What I'd like to do is suss out how to get the lesser redpoll flocks down! I have a bit of a thing for the 'polls.

Don.t get redpoles here pete, iv,e only moved about 3 miles and live on the edge of an estate. The guy next door has feeders up but i use white sunflower hearts find goldies leave the niger and eat the hearts better. But bullies there like hens teeth around here and in 7 years iv;e never seen one on a feeder, the neighbour said they have only just came but i have 2 pairs in a small temp aviary in the shed next to feeders and wondered if that;s what brought them in. As for goldies there always in abundance around here, and especially when the aviary is built and i get my 4 pairs back they call them right down

My Bully hens are peeping their hearts out Taz due to this warm weather,so maybe the cocks heard your doing the same?.The only wild siskin i'veever seen was a wild cock comming down to try to woo a siskin hen i had in a aviary,so it's true what they say,"birds of a feather do flock together".

Damn! I do believe you're dead right there too, Taz! Many years ago now. But, I did used to experiment with single feeds. (I'd love to do it now. But, shipping the stuff to myself would make the prices ridiculous) And, yes. I seem to remember trying nigger and sunflower hearts.

Nigger did indeed, as I recall it, soon take in moisture and wet rot in the feeders! That's probably why I gave it up. Seems ye either have the goldies to make it viable. Or ye rot a lot of expensive seed out, trying to lure them in.

Hulled (Black?) sunflower seeds? Not cheap either! I seem to remember greenies love them too. Worth it then ~ if there were any greenies left :(

I always found hemp a good one.

If only I could still just stroll down the road and buy a kilo, or a 25K sack of any sort of seed. Like I used to .....
