rocket_man 6
thinking about getting a .17hmr heard some good things about them can anyone tell me what sort of range you can kill at with one of these because i have heard loads of different ranges from 60 yards to 200 yards Quote Link to post
SNAP SHOT 194
crows, mags, rabbits, 200 or a little more if you got enough elevation in the scope. not recommended for fox but head shot will kill at 100 to 130 yards, excellent little weapon, very accurate, go for it. rocket_man 6
thanks for that mate yeah i will go for that as i cant seem to even put a dent in my crow problem with the 12 sitting back shooting from 200yards seems like a fun way to control them Quote Link to post
Big bald beautiful 1,231
150 yrds, brilliant guns but hard to silence . if its only rabbits and crows at 80yrds or so try a .22 easyer to silence, infact they can be less then an air rifle Edited September 17, 2007 by Big bald beautiful Quote Link to post
James@Scarborough 0
I find crows won't sit around even with silenced .22lr. you can shoot one but the others fly away. I suppose if you're at 200yds you've more chance? HMR is a bit noisey though. Quote Link to post
brno17 5
sitting back shooting from 200yards seems like a fun way to control them to hit with every shot at 200yds with the 17 would take great skill and practice and any wind adds another factor, think of the 17 as more of a 150yd gun and youll get a lot more fun out of it unless its dead still and you are dialled in. practice practice practice and youll love it. dead ive 0
All this talk of long range shooting with an HMR will take alot of experience and practice to be consistant .Not to mention some decent glass and a suitable cross air . My experience with my CZ ,Leup & Remington ammo combo is head shots up to 110yds and after that it's zeroing on the larger body . I have floated the barrel also but 200yds is some shot .........it can be done and conditions have to be ideal but to echo previous comments :HMR is no 200 yd calibre that'll guarentee a high humane kill rate at that range. SNAP SHOT 194
two hundred yard shots are in good conditions, as for the cross-hair i've the 1/8 min dot on the hawke target 10x40. i've had one of the first hmr's in ireland, shooting crows and mags at 200, only would never try fox at this range, with it, even though i only shot the one with it to see it's capabilities..
