Fitting A Gas Ram ?

Recommended Posts

I shoot a Stoeger X20S springer - it's a solid accurate and dependable rifle, but nothing too sophisticated. A shooting colleague remarked that he thought it is a little bit on the noisy side and has a lot of recoil, but I said that I can't run to anything more expensive at present. He said (only jokingly I think) that I should think about converting it to gas ram.

So.......................

What is the cost involved, could I do it myself, is any improvement in shooting worth the outlay,is there an increase in maintenance and so on and so on.............??

(In a nutshell, pro's and con's !)

Thanks once again fellas !

I fitted a gas ram in a lightning after my spring broke ,it shot well for a time, but stated to leak .Oil was visible leaking out of the ram ,the power then dropped .This happened after a short time of use ,2000 pellets maybe not sure exact ,in about six months .So I fitted a good quality spring with a tight plastic spring guide and a top hat .After a bit of use the guns power dropped a little as the spring bedded in ,put in a washer to bring the power back up .The gun shoots well for years .I did leave the gas ram loaded all the time when out shooting I do not leave the spring gun cocked when out shooting ,but the reason for the gas ram is to leave the gun cocked .I feel a tuned spring is better than a gas ram .my experience with gas rams is just the lightning one it did shoot well for a while but I feel if gas rams where so good there would be more about .and someone claimed somewhere on one of these sites no gas ram powered air gun has ever won a top spring gun shooting competition .
