Craig Fosse 286
Just out of interest guys whats the best pump or gas single barrel 12gs out there at the moment, been looking at the winchester sxp?, pigeon pheasants and rabbit mainly. It's not for me, more for a friend, although maybe in the future for me He's more looking in the range of £300 minus VAT Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
If thats his budget then it has to be a used Berretta 301/302 they are fine guns, even the old abused ones keep on going, a mate of mine picked an absolute mint one up for £275 recently, Franchi are also a good value gun secondhand, if you can find one, but whatever he buys tell him to avoid like the plague those dreadful Hatstand/escorts, he would be better using a walking stick. paulus 26
remington 1100 or 1187 are pretty much bomb proof Quote Link to post

Wanted 300 for it And what a plonker he would look with that, besides not being able to hit a barn door with it probably, its worth about 6pence, who in their right mind would want that thing? Tell him to get on guntrader and buy a good used Berretta, Remington, Winchester, ect and forget pump actions they are crap and not worth a w-nk when you come to re-sell them, as he would surely do. There is a lad on the guns and rifles section selling a Remington 1187 in good condition, £400 a little gentle negotiation should see him get a good gun for his price point Edited November 21, 2013 by charlie caller Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
Mossenburg 500?, no good then I take it?, we can't use gun trader over here mate, it costs just as much to import as the weapon itself mate. Think he wants. Pump action because that's what he knows. Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Well its his money, but £300 for a crappy pump action is daylight robbery, was the man in the shop wearing a mask, saying stand and deliver and brandishing a flintlock pistol? And your original post asks about gas or recoil(inertia) semi autos, which he would be a million times better off with than a pump action. Craig Fosse 286
Yer I apologise for the wrong title, I'm not massively clued up on shotguns, I myself only own a single shot break barrel, I'm just asking in his behalf. As I said I think he's just going down the routes of what he knows. There was a mossenburg 500a 28inch vetted barrel which was alot more, Unfortunatly I think he's struggling because his budget is quite low and the quantity and access to different brands just isn't there. charlie caller 3,654
Yes I can see his problem mate, so I take it getting a gun shipped to a rfd where you live is a really expensive thing then? If that is the case then they have got you by the short and curly's, could you not have a trip onto the mainland and bring one back? I think I would try and steer him towards a more traditional gun like a sbs if the above 2 options are not feasible. Quote Link to post
Craig Fosse 286
Paulus there is absolutely no law against doing that... The problem we have over here is it would cost us a minimum of 240 either on the boat or by plane, then obviously buying the gun itself then bringing it back over, paying for the import licence which ontop of that VaT would have been paid, then bringing over here if its over 220, would have to pay jersey tax on top!.... So it's not feasible at all. To be honest as long as he likes the mossberg he's going to go for it, he's quite a small build like me and with the short barrel he can use it in his hide where he shoots pigeons. I suggested he popped back with a bit more in mind to ask some more questions, the gun owner (who is a friend of mine) is great but he had a friend in today and seemed quite side tracked. Craig Fosse 286
I saw a winchester sxp on sportsmangun centre (which I have shot) and to be honest wouldn't have minded one as well because I have used one before....they quoted us 500-1000 to export to here...just to give you an example of what we have to deal with Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Bloody hell well that does put things in perspective, well I would say if the gun fits him then he might have a chance of shooting straight with it, but unless he is desperate for a gun, he would be better saving for something better, or getting the credit card out. Craig Fosse 286
Are they really that bad? I'm sure it will just be up to him at the end of the day, much appreciated Charlie thanks. No doubt when he goes back he will have a couple of others. Just wish it was easier to import Quote Link to post
