airbourne 128
well I have one lucky lurcher, took the dogs out for a walk down the local park today with the daughters Doberman then all of a sudden my 15 month pup decided to go off like a rocket with the daughters dog which is always up for a good run around, she was going flat out towards the brook which runs through the park the only problem is it has concrete walls at the part where she was running towards and it is about 25 - 30 feet across, and she just had to go for it and almost made it but unfortunately hit the concrete wall on the other side and fell back into the flooded brook, at this point I thought she had killed herself, but luckily scrambled out, she was a bit shook up and had a graze on the end of her muzzle thank god. the pup the one on the right in the pic Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
Pretty bitch, but with suicidal tendencies? Scary to see dogs with errors in judgement. Hope she settles down a bit for you and learns some sense of self preservation. 2 Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
Yeh that's pretty worrying. A mate of mine had a dog with no sense of self preservation. It was very exciting to watch don't get me wrong, he was giving 110% and then some behind his quarry. But fences? Gates? Walls? Dykes? Nah. They never crossed his mind. Needless to say he is no longer with us due to an accident in the field. Don't get me wrong, I love a trier. My bitch gives 100% and will crash into hedges, go under gates at full speed or whatever else she needs to do to get the job done. I've seen her fly over a bunker at top speed on a golf course. But she just seems to control things that little bit more than he did. Hope your pup comes good and doesn't suffer too many injuries learning. Quote Link to post
RossM 8,149
A burn at 25 foot across more like a river?!? Glad the bitch is ok, hopefully she gave herself a fright and will think twice about doing something similar again. Quote Link to post

Derek1962 50
You were lucky he didnt kill himself, but he lived to tell the tale,i have a lurcher that was spinning a hare and he had the hare under pressure when the hare decided to head under a 5 bar gate,i could see myself carrying this lurcher home or worse still burying him out on the land he was on top of the hare and i couldnt bare to look so i looked the oppsite way and i heard the gate rattle and when i turned around dreading the worse he was in the next field still coursing,my heart was in my mouth for them few seconds but he went under the gate or over it,i dont know,so he had a lucky escape.
