jlp 0
Alright lads, a mate just had 2 litters of kits their about 5 weeks and hes started using cat milk to feed the kits. And the kits are looking very well indeed, really fat and very alert and it gives the mother a good 5 min break. Anyone used it at all? JLP Edited September 4, 2007 by jlp Quote Link to post

the fezz 44
drys ok but fur and feathers is the best thing you can give them Quote Link to post
Kay 3,709
No meat at the mo, its only until they can get the dry food down them. I cant strongly advice the feeding of meat to them now enough, they will handle better & come on in leaps & bounds the drys no good to them , they need a good 4 meat meals a day right now Quote Link to post
skycat 6,174
At 5 weeks old they need to be tucking into solids: if you can't get them fresh rabbit or pigeon then go to the butcher and get some chicken carcases the butcher has already taken the breast meat off: you should get them for almost nowt, and some beef mince too as they'll need some red meat: nowt wrong with kitten milk but they really do need solid meat as well. Guest MOLLY
Mine get cat milk mixed in with their egg once a week, but only as a treat. It should not really be used as a food. Soak the dry food in water and add the milk to it once cooled for them, they should be able to eat it no problems then. MOLL. Quote Link to post
jlp 0
circumstances rule this i am afraid, dry food keeps long and easily stored (no freezer) plus i think it horses for courses when it comes to fresh and dry food, I kept my ferrets on fresh mince for 3 years and seen no change when i went to dry food. As for the kits I forgot to say they do have liver with the milk, and by next week i am almost sure they will all be eating dry food. Like Moll said the food will be soaked. With regards to the milk being a treat I totally understand the mother loves it, but the mother is allot bigger so obviously wont meet the dietary requirements and from the looks of the kits they are thriving on it. They are all healthy, fat, alert and very active for their age, so something must be working, I have fed day old chick in past litters and personally from the looks of the kits i'd go for the feeding method i used this time round.
