3 shots, 3 misses, 1 at a rabbit (too much hold over, went over his head), 1 at a magpie (cliped a branch in the wind in front of the bird), 1 at a crow (elevated position and I didn't increase the mil dots).

4 bloody great hawks circling the sky didn't help much. We only saw 3 rabbits all morning, poor do for 5 1/5 hours out and about.

Do you shoot from a lot of the same positions?

i do, so i paced to certain landmarks from my positions so when i see a rabbit it is a good indicator as to its distance. if i know that a certain tree is 30 yrds and the rabbit looks a few paces past it i know to apply slight hold over. helped me a lot. suppose it only works if you go prone in the same place often but like i said helped me and now i find that i estimate distance a lot better than i did.

i have only ever tried to shoot at an elevated target once and thought it was going to be a dead certain hit and the pellet flew well over a woodies head, wasn't until i watched one si pittaways vid's on trajectory that i understood why. still never tried it since.

There are a few spots I have done that, but the place is too big and the rabbits move around (or get shot) so it's impossible to do that every time. Was just a quiet morning, very quiet. On the positive, my red LED ultrafire arrived today so just need a night shoot now to test it out....

Ah Mac I am stuffed for the next 3 weeks but thanks mate, our lass out Thursday with my daughter, Friday she's away down London for the weekend so I have the kids. Next week in Germany, week after in Poland.....

I'm going to go MAD not being able to hunt..........might have to try to squeeze a Sat/Sun morning if you are around on the weekends? Or I'm going to pin a target on the dog and chase him round the park.

Worst thing is, in Germany I am near the black forrest, and the place I stay is a proper old hunting lodge turned hotel. The place is filled with trophys and they serve the best venison.....might have to ask for a day out hunting deer! ha, if only.

It will come I know, still enjoying every trip I am lucky enough to get with Mac or Sean.

I'm annoyed that work and family are having to take priority the next 3 weeks though, have to sneek out for an early morning weekend shoot if the lads are out and about.
