Tyla 3,179
I don't really know which section to put this in as we did a bit of everything but I know Jai is here a lot so here it is. This weekend I took Jai up on a long standing invite to visit. I arrived Saturday morning with Willow my lurcher bitch and Ollie the terrierist. After a warm welcome with tea and an impressive fry up. We, Jai, his girlfriend Loren and I and the dogs Willow, Ollie, Gwen the houndx and Loren's terrier who's name I cant recall all went for a wander along the Wye. Is was an unforgettable walk, a mixture of beautiful scenery, excitement and panic, which resulted in my dogs a bit battered and on the wrong side of the river and Gwen awol for quite some time. I ended up having the carry Ollie back up the mountain as he'd taken a bit of a hiding and was brow beaten into loading him into my backpack by some rather full on American tourists. Between that and the amount of running I had to do it has persuaded me to make yet another attempt to give up the fags! To recover we sojourned to the pub for a chat and a few pints. That night we went for a shine but gave up relatively quickly as Willow wasn't right from her earlier adventures. So far we were having a good time but blanking pretty badly! Sunday Jai showed me round the shoot for a few hours (I think he just wanted someone to open the gates so he didn't have to get off the quad!) and we decided to try a bit of fishing. We finally had some success here and a landed a respectable three each and a bedraggled pigeon squab that we fished out of the lake! We arrived just in time for a delicious Sunday roast, home reared pork, laid on by Jai's parents. Several bottles of red and some excellent company later we did not even attempt lamping! Yesterday, determined to break our duck on the rabbits, we went for a mooch around the back of the estate with the dogs and a young jill ferret. After a bit of dogging in from Ollie and Gwen and a very near miss on one of Jai's pheasants by Willow we found a mark in a small wood. We netted up, entered the jill and had a very quick and easy four bolts. We did one more bury which produced another single and then we distracted by Ollie and Gwen setting off on their own private mission, this led us through a big wood on the side of a steep hill and into a big maize field. Poor Loren was left with the ferret, spade and Willow on a lead while Jai and I set off in pursuit. The object of their mission flushed across the road and we managed to field the dogs before they could follow. We went back to Jai's for sandwichs, tea and homemade carrot cake and for me to pack. We had another crack at the trout while waiting for rush hour to abate but they weren't biting as well as on Sunday. Just as it went dark I somehow managed to foul hook one and in the ensuing struggle my reel fell off and into the lake! After much faffing from the pair of us, its not easy to carry out simple tasks while pissing yourself with laughter, we managed to get it on the bank. Overall a very enjoyable weekend and one that proves that it doesn't always have to be about big bags! A massive thank you to Jai and his family for their hospitality and I hope to be able to return the favour when he and Loren come down here sometime soon! I do have pictures but my phone and laptop for some reason are not talking to each other so they will have to wait a bit! 10 Quote Link to post

Tyla 3,179
Very good company, that bloody terrier - I really thought he'd hurt himself badly. He's a hardy sort but couldn't walk and in the circumstances thought there was some damage so packed him out. That was at the bottom of a small mountain, when I unloaded him at the top by the car he hopped in like nothing had happened. Reckon it was either cramp from running hard then swimming the river or the crafty little shit just fancied a ride. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,217
Good read mate and a cracking weekend. It's not about the numbers, but the company! But I think we'd have caught more if we hasn't broken one and a half dogs on the first day. Saturdays adventure in the woods will stay in my memory for a long time..... It was fun, but could've gone really tits up! ..... And we ate well. You're welcome back anytime, as long as you bring the terrorist! 2 Quote Link to post
