Starting Falconry.

hi im just after some help/advice as im wanting to start falconry, could anyone recomend any books and/or online pages i could read, i dont want to jump into this without doing plenty of research ect, i have been doing some research into it but i would also like to get advise of experienced handlers on here. thanks in advance chris.

Falconry and Hawking by P Glasier, Understanding the Birds of Prey by Nick Fox, Art and Practise by Emma Ford, all good starter books, the first two are the ones I keep going back too, if its harris hawks anything by Martin Hollinshead, he is one fo the rare, falconers that really sees the best in these exceptional birds

thanks for the replys, im from barrow in furness, its the harris hawks im looking into getting, im looking into groupes that are local to me so hopefully i'll get some time handling some hawks.also i have two salukis which will need to be introduced to the bird so any advice on this would be greatfully received.

get intouch with greg butler he is not far from you and runs a group he is a top bloke, tell him neil from whyndam sent you

Sell the Salukis and get a decent collie or beddy cross :whistling: sorry mate could not resist that one lol, good luck with your hawking career.

see the right saluki work with hawk or falcon on hare and you wont want another collie again pal :laugh: love collie x's but sometimes brains not of any use, all gits and gung ho the way forward, heart be the bagfull when it comes mr brown, be it fur or feather chasing or a mixture of both, its gone on for thousands of years so there must be summat to it, :victory:
