jackg 7
I have already seen queen wasps this year by nest entrances. I saw the first ones about a week ago. I thought they were produced much later in the year, October onwards. They are obviously larger than workers so definitely queens. I am surprised that I am seeing them this early. Quote Link to post
Matt 160
It's certainly a strange year. A few weeks ago I was flying. Did 5 one day (which is alot for me) and thought, "yes, here we go"... then it stopped.... Ticking over now; a couple a day and a mixture of mature and immature nests. Seen a few queens, and also had workers feeding on sweet stuff, but also did one nest yesterday that wasn't that advanced... very odd. I was hoping for a late but long season, but it's not looking good. On the bright side, the bit of rain we've had seems to have got the moles moving again. 10 garden jobs so far this week..... outandabout 27
About the same as what Matt's experiencing round here, the nests are in different stages of advancement. I had one job where there were 2 nests in one garage roof, one large and one just started - I thought it'd be an abandonned attempt at first but it was active. Lots of hornets around I've noticed, I enjoy observing them and they're usually very docile even when you get close. Moles fairly quiet round here but they go in fits and starts - usually after we've had a bit of rain. Had one job where wasps had taken over a mole run so hopefully I'll get a call back there in a few weeks. Edited August 13, 2013 by ekpestcontrol Quote Link to post
